I definitely feel for the folk losing their jobs b/c of this closing and I'm curious to take an unofficial poll:
How many people have walked past the un-pronouncably named restaurant in the past week?
Okay a few of us...including me.
How many have eaten there?
Hmmm, less of us...okaaay...
Now, how many of you actually paid for your meal when you went there? (Remember, expense accounts dont count).
Ummmm one...two...maybe? Nahh...not even. Okay --- fair to say NO ONE?!?
Alright, last question, how many of you who paid for the meal actually went back for ANOTHER one - within the same decade?
See there's the hook...how can a restaurant - so snooty - expect repeat, LOCAL customers?
Oh that's right --- that's not their goal...hence they FAILED...
Too bad, so sad -- but really is it all that surprising?
Unpronounceable?
This is a basic vocabulary word in French.
Srsly.
What Ron said.

So worldly
Glad to see that so many French speakers love this restaurant that it's closing...
Chaulk up another win for dilettantes who don't get blogs in plain English...
Four Season's has decided to listen to you..
If you're lucky they might open a Denny's in it's place. Perhaps you'll learn to love it then.
It's the economy, (fill in the blank)
Unbelievable. Glad to see all these regular customers coming out of the woodwork -- on a blog -- to support such a great restaurant - one that, as I said, I doubt any of you have been to twice -- on your own dime. A little late for that, no?
But hey, if you think it's me who's happy, sad or even gives a d@mn that it's closing - except for the joes who will be outta work -- you are solidly confused.
If you think the economy s*hks and this is just another sign...yeah...spot on.
There's a whole other world out there
Believe it or not, there's a whole other world out there beyond UHubbers. Lots and lots of people that make a good amount of money, even a lot of money, that think nothing of going out to eat at a place like Aujoud'hui. Really.
Huh?
It's not that hard to say. Even if your normal second language is German.
I've been there three times with my Schwägervater and crew; I'll see if they can accomodate a 20-month-old next weekend so that we can say goodbye.
Although I'm not surprised that Aujourd'hui is closing. I've been to events in other function spaces at the Four Seasons, which seemed a little cramped (complete to the corporate bouncers not letting anyone else in lest the fire marshall be called). Adding one larger space would definitely help.
Au'voir! (Or, in a language I can parse, Tchüß!)

Aujourdhui
I had breakfast there once on my own dime... or... on my own $20-bill.
Aujourd'hui
To be fair, the restaurant does get repeat "local" guests who pay their own bills and do not rely on their expense accounts. People had enjoyed coming there for birthday's, holiday's, and special occasions and the ridiculously fantastic Sunday brunch.
What is their goal: To provide exceptional food and service. It is a place where people work, every day, to make the dining experience fully enjoyable with the hope that everyone will leave happy and fully satisfied. This is sometimes overlooked by the "discerning" guest but is often recognized by those who appreciate good food, good service and an attention to detail that is not "snooty" but professional.
"Snooty" is the perception of those walking by; if you walked into the hotel you would be treated with the utmost respect, no question. The Four Seasons caters to clientele that tends to be more wealthy (maybe more snooty) than the average citizen and if you can't afford to pay then there are many other places that can cater to your culinary needs.
As far as "snooty", the people who work at the hotel and in specifically, Aujourd'hui, which in French means today (an easy word to pronounce), are not snooty at all. They are extremely knowledgeable in their craft and really care about the food and the service they provide to their guests.
It is unfortunate that you never had a chance to eat there. It's true that people don't know what a fish knife is and hey, that's okay. That's what we lose when we lose Aujourd'hui. Things change, times change and if the restaurant can't figure out how to appeal to a more cautiously relaxed type of diner, than the doors must be closed. With this shuttering, some more of my friends will have lost their jobs.
Basic French...
Not only is it a basic French word meaning "today", but the restaurant was VERY successful. It opened in 1985...not a bad run for any restaurant.
