Triple-decker expansion rejected on East 8th Street in South Boston

The Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected a proposal by the owner of the triple decker at 353 East 8th St. to extend the building in the rear, including new decks, and add living space in the basement as just too much.

The proposal, to add more than 1,000 square feet of space, had been opposed by the mayor's office and the offices of City Councilors Ed Flynn and Michael Flaherty. The first two cited opposition from neighbors; Flaherty opposes any variances under the zoning that applies to much of South Boston.

Wow! Bet the developer didn't see that coming. They've been gutting this property for the past week. This is happening all over Southie. They build/expand right up to the property lines and there's no sunlight left.

We’ll be seeing a lot more of this - everyone who’s renting better have the suicide hotline number memorized before lease renewal time!

Lately, I think some of the development around here is put into place with a shoehorn. This is a prime example of that.
Another proper decision by the ZBA.
Have a swell afternoon.
