An early morning fire means no more challah, bubkies and other baked items for awhile at Cheryl-Anns' Bakery, 1010 West Roxbury Parkway in South Brookline.
In a Facebook post, the kosher bakery reports:
Unfortunately, due to an early morning fire , (everyone’s ok ) the bakery will be closed until further notice …we will be pushing to open as soon as possible and we love you all.
David Walsh reports Brookline firefighters responded shortly after 2 a.m. to find "heavy fire" in the rear of the bakery's building, a strip mall at the Putterham rotary. The fire was bad enough that Boston sent two firetrucks to the scene as well.

Not that any time would be good, but it's so sad for this to happen around the holidays. I wish them a speedy reopening!

At least it wasn't during the Jewish high holidays. I'll miss them terribly while they are closed.
Holiday season?

Yeah, the Holiday Season ended two months ago with Simchas Torah, and even Hannukah ended last week. And Purim is still more than three months away.
Oh, I'm sure..

How about folks who aren't Christian and for whom the challah is the centerpiece of the Shabbat dinner table? In other words... Jews.
Ha'motzi lechem min ha'aretz.
(Oh, BTW -- Cheryl Ann's challah makes fabulous French toast!)

There aren't any Jewish holidays for a while. Except Shabbos which is every week, and Cheryl-Anns challah is nice to have on Friday night. I hope they reopen soon!

Cheryl Ann's is one of the two brands of challah sold at Pemberton Farms in North Cambridge. I bet many other grocers sell their bread as well.
Do they distribute out of their shop?

Or do they have a commissary or a co-packing deal with a different manufacturer.
I’d be surprised if they distribute baked goods from their Putterham spot, but it’s not impossible.
Probably not

Cheryl Ann's is one of the few truly kosher bakeries in the area -- and they have THE best challah by far. Given the kashrut requirements, I doubt you'd find many co-packers who would want to make the investment.

E37 and Lad 26 come from Huntington Ave by Wentworth. If they rolled on mutual aid to Brookline it was to cover the central station in Brookline Village. If the fire went to additional alarms it would be more likely for E30 and/or Lad 25 from West Roxbury to roll in with everyone else moving up per the response card.

I have a jones right now, reading this for a warm slice of bubbke with those delicious yellow raisins!
Or for their round rye with seeds!
Or for a slice of their lattice top cherry pie.
Tell me where to send my money!
And the Bakery Ladies are the best!
