hooray for the T, its about time our world can return to the time when we do not have to subjected to some peoples one sided conversation that intrude on our senses
That's for T workers
T riders can continue to share their half of phone conversations with all in the car.
Be afraid.. very afraid
While some may welcome a cell phone ban, keep in mind that not all busses have radios and those that do may not have working units. The same is true of trains.
Customer service reps in stations are not walkie-talkie equipped.
It will be a matter of time before there is some accident or crime that will have emergency services delayed because of this. Those cell phones were a necessary tool. Abused, yes.
Do you want to be dependent on a passenger with a cell phone to make the right calls? That of course assumes the passanger has a cell phone. And what if that passenger "doesn't want to get involved."
This was a case of a knee jerk reaction to an accident. I'm surprised the state house didn't ban trolley cars altogether as dangerous.
The T had a rule that was adequate. All they needed to do is enforce it. They didn't. In fact those charged with enforcement were the same people that abused the priviledge - sort of a fox in the hen house thing. And everyone knows you don't rat on a fellow employee. Big no-no in the T union.
Might this have been a muscle flex from T management against an otherwise powerful union? That is something to ponder.
Curious these problems always arise in June - just when contracts are about to be renewed.
Look it up. You always see threats of fare increases and service cuts in or just before June as well as other stuff.

Not a T employee
Just another Charlie
Nearly all the CSA's I've seen in Green Line stations have
two-way radios that are programmed to the dispatcher's frequency.
The CSAs also have access to regular landline telephones. As I've personally seen on multiple occassions, they're accessible through a front panel in the ex-collector booths now used for the Charlie equipment.
