Dan Burgess introduces us to Boston's "urban wilds" - spots of land throughout the city that aim to preserve what's left of Boston from pre-European days:

This is a great concept that leads to some really nice parks. It's too bad that my city won't do it.

Meanwhile, Fabulously Out There goes for a walk along the Chelsea River Urban Wildlife Area and finds something pretty wild, if not exactly a natural, pre-1620s vista.

I have views of the Chelsea Creek and the park/waterway from my apartment and it is amazing how big some of those ships are. Sometimes I will be walking by my living room and out of the corner of my eye I see one of the ships moving, they are bigger then the houses in front of them. Its like seeing a building move.

A Surreal Moment

I lived in Chelsea for a few years after 9/11. The first time they sent an LNG tanker through they stepped up security to the max. Police cruisers in the parks, helicopter overhead, spotlights on the Tobin (which was also shut down), you name it. The wildest thing was that they shut off the lights on the tanker itself. When it started entering Chelsea Creek you could only tell because suddenly all the lights normally shining from Boston were blocked. It really was a surreal moment watching it slowly pass unlit right in front of you.

I remember Wesley Clark even mentioned the LNG tanks as a possible terrorist threat. I almost forgot how tense people were about the return of the LNG tankers.
