That is actually the way Dot is trending. (See South Boston 2005 - Present).

Southie started gentrifying back in the 1980s when "yuppies" were considered the neighborhood scourge by townies.

I was there. There was a heap o'Rocks Throwing At School Busers still there. Plenty of them, the vast majority.
As far as Yuppies go, when the Blackthorn opened in the late 80's, SB people were like "Damn Yuppies" except it was an Irish immigrant bar and Whitey still took his cut. One night there was a new fresh off the plane bartender who didn't know that it was collection night or that was any kind of collection. One of Whitey's guys beat the tar out of him when the bartender told him to sod off when he came to collect. Ah, Gawd's Country.
When the Blackthorn closed a few years back, the refrain was "Damn Yuppies" had closed what was a "real Southie" bar.
SB has some yuppie "seeds" in the late 80's but the big change in real estate didn't start until 2005.
"I'll do..."

That's pretty hilarious. But it does spotlight something that has been a pet peeve of mine for a while now. The now very commonplace and accepted use of "I'll do" as in "I'll do a small with cream and sugar, "I'll do a caesar salad" etc. in place of "I'll have" or "I would like". Just what are you going to "do" with that salad? Old that I am, I remember back in the 80s when the Valley Girl-ish "let's do lunch" was joked about and the object of ridicule as belonging to the elite and out of touch. No longer I guess.

Give up the pet peeves! And why do you have to be anonymous?

…our Italo-American cousins coined the phraseology. The Italian verb fare, meaning make or do, is used colloquially in just the ways you mention. I know the Italian side of the family and their neighbors, all from the Italian enclave around St Francis Church in East Cambridge, used do as you described. They also used go in a similar Italianized manner- Can you go some dessert?

I just moved from Boston to southern Florida. I did manage to slow down my order while going through the drive through the other day. She handled it like a champ!

I've decided that everyone is born with only so-many winters in them, and I ran out about three winters ago. If I could afford two places I'd snow bird, but I can't... I am, however, *gleefully* bringing my northern liberal vote down here with me! Hoping I can get my condo sold quickly enough to register to vote in time for the next gubernatorial election!

This guy does a good job with the vocal mannerisms, from the effete "uptalking" currently in vogue in some demographics through two shades of the more stereotypical Boston accent.

Funny that they imply that someone who moves to Boston from somewhere else can ever become "officially a local."
