Guess it's a good thing I forgot it was Bunker Hill Day

First, Happy BH Day, everybody! Yay! What are your plans for today?
The holiday this year coincides with our regular trash pickup day. Normally, when a holiday falls on a Wednesday, we know to put our trash and recyclables out on Thursday. But I guess there are advantages to being half asleep and forgetting it's a holiday and doing your usual trash-day routine, since the recycling truck just came by and emptied our bin. Maybe it's because the guys who man the truck work for a private company and not the city?

Only Christmas
I think the only trash holiday is supposed to be Christmas day (our second day is thursday and to my recollection they even come on Thanksgiving (but you had better get up with the early birds!)
Oh, you twice-a-week types
Second day? Here in Rozzie, we just gather up all our refuse in one giant ball o' stuff for our single weekly pickup, which usually is put off a day for other holidays, such as July 4th and, um, hmm, I guess that's it.
If you remember to check
The city does have the schedule on its site.
Wanna trade?
You buy me a garage on Comm Ave to store my trash in for the week and I'll arrange to have your trash picked up one extra time a week. I hear an open spot goes for 300k, how much could it cost to build a garage! :-)=)
(actually personally I'd be fine with once a week - but there are other buildings in the area that might send you videos so you can debate whether those are mice or rats running around the floor of their apartment! Maybe someone from the FP Zoo can weigh in on that one!)
Is BH Day even a ciy holiday?
I thought they were having enough trouble already justifying keeping
St.Patrick'sEvacuation Day and Patriots Day on the time-off calendar for city employees.Yes it is
I have a kidlet upstairs today because there's no school.
patriot's day is an actual state holiday.
it's bunker hill day and evacuation day that are suffolk county holidays, and up for dispute.
to further confuse the suffolk county holidays, many state unions (mine included) get the holiday even if you are not based in suffolk county.
so, for example, i should have a holiday today. but our state offices are open. so some state workers, who should have the day off, are still working the day.
don't worry
I'm sure they are getting holiday overtime...
I can assure you, Ed, that
I can assure you, Ed, that we are not.
Bunker Hill Day in Somerville
is sort of a holiday, sort of not. Tom Champion tries to explain.
It was voted on this year
The teacher's union voted to work Bunker Hill day rather than have the last day be Monday the 29th.
