New York fans don't care about Boston? Yeah, right

John Carroll dissects a New York Magazine screed on why New Yorkers should root for the Warriors that basically comes down to:

But they still play in a city that has won way too much over the last 20 years, trading in its underdog status for cocky villainy in the process. Plus, there are just too many Boston fans with a “let’s avoid this guy at Thanksgiving” feel about them.

David Portnoy roots for the Celtics, so therefore they suck.

Dave Portnoy and his merry band of white boy misogynists are repulsive. They do a great job — proudly, eagerly — embodying the worst stereotypes about Boston and its people.

I wish that schmuck was some relic from 2011, but instead (give him the credit he’s due) he’s still very much with us and as contemptible as ever.

…of Leitch’s sentiment if Carroll is really annotating it as though it was written in earnest lol

i will say that the point about Portnoy stands. his face might be more punchable than Mark Zuckerburg’s

1. Wherever did the poor, misunderstood Boston fans get this terrible and entirely undeserved reputation?

2. Leitch is a Cardinals fan, so discount accordingly.

And for good measure 3. celebrate the Celtics who are cool and fun and resilient, not their very worst “real Boston, bro” fans (“Especially not the ones from Medford” — Frank Baker).

umm the author of the article in the New Yorker, is NOT a NYer and doesnt even live there.
Im sure that would go over very well if somebody not from Boston was portrayed as giving the Boston feelings about, say the Rangers vs Lightning right now.

the real question is.. who do Lakers fans root for? They hate both franchises.
Anyway, Celts in 6! Lets go!

I dunno, I am kind of proud of us for finally getting New York to admit this is a two way beef and it wasn't just us with a chip on our shoulder :)

As opposed to, say, the Yankees?

If the Knicks didn't blow, the Celtics wouldn't have had as many opportunities to win it all.

You don't get silly stuff from sportsball writers who apparently get paid by the word.

New York Magazine is great, don't get me wrong, but the article is pretty lazy.

Does that make me a schmuck for wanting to see the Rangers beat the Lightning?

No, not at all, a lot of fans are sick of the Lightning. For my part, I, a lifelong Bruins fan, am neutral but I'm still watching every game because I love hockey.
