Man tries to jump over Public Garden fence, doesn't quite make it, impales himself

Live Boston reports that on Saturday, Boston police officers and EMTs rushed to one of the Public Garden fences along Charles Street after a man attempting a feat of derring-do instead wound up impaled on one of the fence's pointy bars.

Responders were able to free him and rush him to Tufts Medical Center for emergency care.

I think he finally got behind the point of said fence.

Where on his body did said impalement occur?

That they lock at night or something?

I never endeavored to visit at a late night hour, because I figured that wasn't the point of the Public Garden.

Anyway, if this happened on the Charles Street side, there's only three entrances -- one each at the NE/SE corners and one halfway between, and it's probably a couple hundred yards in between. I can easily envision a young man who's either had a few or honestly just generally being a youthful idiot deciding it'd be faster (or more impressive to his buddies) to just try to hop over.

But that was due to special events in the area.

The Public Garden does have some spots which are pretty at night -- like the bridge or the equestrian statue of Washington with the FiDi skyline behind it. It's also useful as a cut-through when walking from the Back Bay to Park Street and vice versa.

He had some stolen goods and was in a rush to get to the fence.

His buddies were saying he has no balls when challenged to scale the fence...and now he proved them right.
