South Street Diner wins, gets to stay open all night

The Boston Licensing Board decided today to take no action against the South Street Diner over noise complaints, which means the eatery can continue to serve up food at all hours.
Technically, the board "filed" complaints from four neighbors, which theoretically means the board could re-open the case if it receives additional complaints.
However, at a hearing yesterday, none of the people who'd complained about late-night noise appeared, while numerous other nearby residents and patrons attended to voice their support for what they said was a much needed service in a bustling area run by a true gentleman.

For once in New England, the superstitious "Nothing good happens after midnight" crowd has failed. This makes me happy.
Indeed great news, but don't generalize....
Try, "in Massachusetts"... at least in Vermont and New Hampshire this puritan attitude isn't in control, thankfully!

We've got a couple of 24-hour diners here in NH. The loudest reactions to a new one opening (The Red Arrow in Milford) have been the local cops saying "Thank GOD...a place to get REAL COFFEE AND FOOD and warm up on a 20-degree night!"
This is such a no-brainer, Boston!
Separate from Blue Diner
Blue Diner turned into News (which has since closed) somewhere around 2001-2002ish. But they're close by.
Longer still ago it WAS the Blue Diner
When I worked on Lincoln Street, back in the early 80s, the diner that was actually in an old diner at 178 Kneeland was indeed the Blue Diner.
In about 1995 the owners relocated their restaurant to the building at 150 Kneeland, taking the name "The Blue Diner" with them, and the diner in the diner was opened as "The Boston Diner" (or "The Original Boston Diner," which it clearly wasn't.)
The Blue Diner later became News, and the Boston Diner became South Street Diner. But yes, the Blue Diner was indeed once in the actual diner at the corner of Kneeland and South.

Yup
Especially if they get free coffee. I don't know if the South Station Diner has this policy, but it never hurts to make sure the graveyard shift stays happy, caffeinated and fed.
What about Cambridge?
Can you call the Cambridge Licensing Board and ask for an update on the replacement for the B-Side Lounge? I think it's called Lord Hobo, and it's stalled because of noise complaints about the previous bar. It's one of the few places, and the only one in that area, with a 2 a.m. license.
That and because Cambridge apparently has decided, obviously entirely without any notice to its citizens/voters, to phase out "bars," i.e. places where the drink/food revenue ratio is great than 50/50.
Ridiculous.
