The Goofus and Gallant of Jamaicaway sporting events
Remember this past summer when DCR put up all those electronic signboards along the parkways and had cops stationed at what seemed like every 10 feet to direct traffic to or away from the US Open at a country club in Brookline and we all grumbled, but in the end it seemed to work?
Hi, Gallant! In contrast, there's Goofus, in the form of today's BAA half marathon, which affects many of the same roads. As Jason Turgeon sums it up:
Absolutely astonishing how bad traffic management for @BAA half marathon is. No signage, no info, complete gridlock
The Jamaica Plain Facebook group has become a gathering place for people caught unawares of the road closures who found themselves in a non-moving quagmire of red brake lights. Even people who knew about the race got stuck in the mess because they relied on the city traffic advisory which made it sound like only roads in or right next to Franklin Park would be affected, because, apparently, DCR and the city had a falling out and are no longer on talking terms, so the city advisory doesn't mention any of DCR-owned parkways - all the way out to Jamaica Pond - that the race would also be run on.

Three hours on a Sunday morning

That’s pretty funny. Alert mentions nothing outside Franklin Park while the shutdown went past the pond, Riverway was shut down all the way up to Longwood and Fenway. But it was a couple hours on a rainy Sunday morning, not a whole week like the golf thing.
One doesn't need an HLS
One doesn't need an HLS degree to understand what

True, but ...
It's still kind of lame. We live in an age of instant communication. You mean the city can't ask DCR (or BAA) for the roads on which most of the race would be run - roads that carry a lot more people, even on a Sunday morning, than the ones in the park?
DCR = Deadly Civic Rot
If Maura Healey could figure out how to clean up DCR's tired act, or better yet just disband it altogether, she'd be our most successful governor since John Hancock. They're not just bad at communications but awful at maintaining roads (why is that their job again?) and pretty terrible park operators too (see Adam's Hyde Park boulder coverage as just the most recent example). Fingers crossed.
I don't know about the City
I don't know about the City signs.
I drove in from Westwood to Boston Saturday night. On VFW Parkway, DCR had message boards up about the BAA - seemed reasonably informative.
