Actually, I don't think I want to know.
The "D" Stone
By what what now?

I had to think about that for a few seconds.
The "D" stone is the curved stone in front of driveways or crosswalks on the sidewalk.

Presumably the stone that's shaped like a "D", usually found at the edge of a driveway.

I wonder how long it will last until the City removes it?

And my, aren’t we charming about it!
Translation: please get a parking ticket.

This sign is apparently asking ppl to park close to a driveway. Which invites getting a parking ticket — for parking too close to a driveway.

How close to a driveway can you park in Boston? I'm interested in the actual practice of what will get you a ticket, though the letter of the law would also be helpful.
Nope. Unless there is a sign

you cannot get a ticket for parking too close to a drive. You have to be blocking it for the oinkers to haul out their ticket pad.

Those random cap letters make me want to come and pull down this sign.

The genius do-gooders park right up on top of my driveway like this making it impossible for me to get in due to the narrowness of the street. So they successfully squeezed an extra car onto the street, but the only option left to me is to park on the street, which leaves my driveway empty and the street with one less available spot. They do it to my neighbor, also.
Keep on keepin’on.

Maybe what makes sense in this particular spot wouldn't be the best solution by your driveway.

I think this person in their neighborhood has the same issue as mine... Space Saving.
What people are doing on my street these days is parking their car in a strategic manner so they occupy both spaces, then when their friend shows up with their car, and they move the parked car so both cars can park there.
I keep seeing this more and more. Not only in my 'hood but others too. Its very obvious when people park at entrances to the driveway... such as what is stated here in the sign.
BUT CARS, BUT PARKING. Cuz people don't give sh*t about anyone else these days, except their own. So over people's rightousness about where they think they have 'rights' to park their car anywhere they want.

Everyone knows the proper way to handle that is to get a handicap spot directly in front of your house, that way you can get anyone that parks there towed aside from your friends.
Parking at the D is illegal (I think!)

I'm not arguing that you'll get a ticket, but my recollection is that you need to be two feet away from the driveway edge.
A google search confirmed this for Somerville; I didn't find state-wide language

That is hardly the first sign. In the quest to keep driveway accessible but allow a full two cars to park between driveways there have been many signs, including an official city one that was later removed. I realize city parking is a delicate balance of factors, but the signs have been a lot to say the least. If you all are amused at this, it's a shame you missed the last several iterations.
