Guy charged with stomping man in an Orange Line car at Haymarket

Transit Police report arresting a guy they charge ended an argument with a 63-year-old man on an Orange Line train stopped at Haymarket by punching and kicking him.
Eric Paul Simensen, 35, was arrested at 1 p.m. on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) on a person over 60, police say, adding he also had an unrelated arrest warrant out of Quincy District Court.

Dangerous on the T
Nobody with a brain stands near the edge of the platform of the MBTA subway after a 16 year old boy was kicked onto the Blue Line tracks -completely unprovoked - by a man who then went back to his hometown of Whitman and stabbed someone in the face, on the same day.
Bullies are fearlessly provoking fights with strangers of all ages, genders, and races.
I commute on the Orange Line daily, and I now make sure that my pepper spray dispenser is within reach in case I am attacked.
This lawlessness can be attributed to the widely known fact that the MBTA is seriously understaffed. This includes security personnel. Cameras can be used after the fact, but there are no preventive measures.
Riding on the MBTA has become like the Wild West.
Meanwhile, nobody on the MBTA staff noticed the MILLIONS of dollars being stolen by a Keolis executive until $8 million had been stolen to buy renovations to this guy's two houses, one in Vermont and one in Beverly. He also used the $$ to buy several vehicles and other toys. That money would have gone a long way to repairing and replacing tracks and cars.
No wonder the MBTA is falling apart.
Why aren't people marching in the streets? Because we're too busy trying to get to our jobs on time, and in one piece.
Shame on our leadership in the State House. Somebody needs to take over the MBTA now!!!!!!!

I am in agreement that the Orange Line, in my experience has been a 50/50 crap shoot as to whether wild behaviors will pop off (seemingly without much or any provocation) on any given ride. I have watched couples do the wild thing, drink bottom shelf 2 litre bottles of vodka, been called all kinds of ugly names, teens fighting both on the train and in Forest Hills station. I have seen folks playing old style loud ass boom boxes or just their super powered cell phones without wearing headsets. If you ask someone to move a bag so you can sit down, it is entirely possible you will be dressed down for no reason except the owner is nasty and doesn't see why she can't have two seats.
I never stand close to the platform anymore, but there are a few stops where the platform is quite close, one of those being Haymarket. I have been spit at, and have watched opioid addicts nodding on the train and platform, wondering if I will have to get out the Nalaxalone any time soon.
The slow down zone between Jackson and Stony Brook takes longer every day. I really believe we are traveling at about 5 MPH.
The FTA has a big list of demands, and essentially are overseeing this process, so while we are not formally taken over by the fed, we might as well be for as much as the new governor has given this attention. I admire Wu for keeping the T in just about every conversation.

Meh… I ride the orange line every day and never have I ever come close to feeling threatened. Sure I see the occasional junky needing narcan but that’s about it.

That's subjective to each rider. Personally I've witnessed idiots either lighting up weed or persons with mental-health issues screaming on the train. One thing I have not noticed are transit cops. Unless it's a bunch of Black and brown kids getting on at Forest Hills first thing in the morning you seldom see transit cops. They are the biggest "welfare queens" in the state next to corrupt MBTA employees.
Don’t use pepper spray in the cars
Better off with a stun gun.
