Boston Restaurant Talk reports Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment plans to open a coffeehouse called Central Perk, as in the place where the Friends used to hang out, on Newbury Street. Maybe the cardboard cutouts of Chandler and Phoebe we assume they'll have could throw down with the cardboard cutouts of Norm and Cliff from Cheers in a battle of sitcom dominance.

talk visiting friends out of wasting time on the Bull & Finch Pub. Most went anyway and were frustrated that it didn't remotely look like the TV Cheers; it only provided one oft-repeated exterior shot. I never visited the Faneuil Hall place that reportedly aped the look of the show's soundstage bar set, but I imagine it would have scratched that itch better.
I'm told that Friends reruns have found a big new fandom among the kids, but this looks to me like a place with an 18-month shelf life at best. Restaurant and bar concepts dreamed up by MBAs inevitably suck.

they can reopen as the restaurant from Seinfeld, Tom's Restaurant / Monk's Cafe. We could use a diner in town, with breakfast all day and pie.

Interesting fact: you could remove the three words "restaurant and bar" from your last sentence, and it'd still be accurate.
A little more than the exterior shots for Cheers

The tv show's set lifted some details from the Bull & Finch, but not enough for most people to pick up on. It was smaller details like the surface of the bar and the set having the same number of steps between the door and the main floor.

yup I will take people by the exterior for a picture (if they want) as apart of the common/park/boylston/newbury walking tour I give folks who visit. But I always say "yeah going inside will be a disappointment". Funny thing is, I say this based on everyone else saying this. I've never been inside the B&F Pub myself.
I actually was disappointed when I first saw the exterior when I first moved here. The shot made Beacon street look so wide. It's really not.
Which is funny because I find Friends to be terribly dated and '1990s'. The jokes are old and somewhat tasteless now. And its pretty 'white' too.
But then again I didn't watch it when it was on the first time, so obv I wouldn't be into it now.
And I agree this has a shelf life of 18mos to 2 years. It won't last long..
I've been to the Hampshire

I've been to the Hampshire house several times for events in the 90s and 2000s but only been to BF once. I had friends from out of town who insisted and I said fine. It not only didn't look anything like the show, the food was not great and service stunk. It has to be the laziest tourist trap money grabs I've ever been to.

That was completely changed into a Quickie-Mart. This was around 15 years ago IIRC but it was a very, VERY impressive undertaking. Employee uniforms, shop signage, pink donuts. They even tagged El Barto out back next to the dumpsters.
I'm really surprised a Moe's hasn't been tried at least once.

I think I remember this being something they did here and there as a promotion for the Simpsons movie, which came out in 2007, so the timing matches.

Fifteen years ago was when the movie came out, and 7-11 did a nationwide promotion, although outside of key locations like that it was mostly minor stuff like selling pink donuts and not redoing the store entirely.
