He didn’t make it
I am not familiar with that
I am not familiar with that street but from looking at google view, it looks like this intersection recently received the "slow street" treatment.
Wood Ave shows a good amount of marking and curb extensions but that's clearly not enough to slow down the sociopathic drivers that populate our streets. It shows no speed humps or even 4-way stop signs that would prevent most people from launching at over 40 mph.
Preventable tragedies waiting to happen
Wide intersection, on a hill, nothing unusual, but and HP has become (like a lot of Boston neighborhoods) the Wild West when it comes to driving: speeding on narrow streets, running reds, and ignoring stop signs. Throw in a cell-distraction. And cops just seem to ignore. Pedestrian fatalities are on the rise and it’s predictable: was just thinking this yesterday when going in to work and seeing a driver blow thru multiple stop signs on small streets: no brake lights….And last night watched a statie (no lights no emergency) ignore a red arrow on Truman pkwy followed by the five speeding cars behind him. The streets are not friendly especially to four year olds.
The disgusting behavior of
The disgusting behavior of local drivers starts with cops. They refuse to do their job and pull over dangerous drivers and then they drive dangerously themselves.
The attitude of most drivers is sociopathic. They shrug their shoulders at a 4 year old being killed by one of their fellow criminal drivers yet lose their minds at just the thought of narrowed streets or other measures that save lives.
As I say until I'm blue in the face
Speed cameras are needed. Even if every cop spent every minute of their shift pulling people over, there's only so many cops.
Not to say cops should enforce traffic laws but if the goal is to get people to slow down, speed cameras are far more effective. (Which is why they are so strongly opposed by people, legislators included.)
They are most likely strongly opposed ….
…. by Big Automobile as well. Anything that gets in the way of their selling the dream of feeling that exhilarating rush of power while speeding unheeded down city streets like their advertisements show drivers doing on scenic rural roads, is what their lobbyists fight tooth and nail to prevent. Sell cars and more cars, vehicles on steroids like the bloated monster pickups, at any costs. Road kill, even human roadkill, is irrelevant to this industry.
big automobile can prevent
big automobile can prevent cars from speeding cheaper than cameras.
Indeed they can.
But likely never will. Unless the public and lawmakers put enough pressure on them. Then they will spin it as an original idea of their own because they care about you and your family.
