Is kind of ridiculous. I would think they would do some kind of study to make sure it is safe, and then maybe also to have enough of a runout that this doesn't happen. Really it shouldn't make much of a difference how big the person is. They make it difficult to get to the slide (for small children or adults: it's tricky climbing and as a taller American I had to contort myself to get there) but once there (accidentally), whee!
There's an open slide in Fisher Hill Park in Brookline which, when its wet, is also extremely fast/dangerous, and a lot easier to get into!

That that playground looks incredibly unsafe. But I was assured by people who build these (and parks, etc) that it was safe.

Even though he was actually working and protecting the streets of Boston while sliding, he's not pursuing a workers' compensation claim thay would cost the city even more money for nonsensical behavior.
Of course, now that the fact thay he was in duty when this happened, his health insurance company should deny the claim and take it up with his WC provider.

but I recall a slide at a small park in my tiny nowhere Masshole hometown that felt literally 20 feet high, was made entirely of gleaming aluminum that got hot as a bastard in the summer sun, and definitely got wicked faster after I got the bright idea to start bringing wax paper from home to put under our butts.
I now think: a) it's amazing nobody broke bones on the hard landing off that thing, and b) it must be long-dismantled by now.
