We all know that this was all about HEY EVERYONE! LOOK AT CURT BEING A CHRISTIAN MAN! (who cheats, lies, steals, etc.) rather than any concern about the people in question.
Fucking neopharisees! If you really care about someone, praying for them is literally the least you can do!

But I thought the point of prayer is that you are asking God for something directly and that other people don't matter. God is never depicted as being democratic and waiting until there is popular support to act.

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Well then maybe you should be praying for brains there Curt, because you'll need a miracle to get some.

These people REALLY need to take their Christian ideals, fold them in four corners, and shove'em..........
So damn tired of these people pushing their crap onto other people. You wanna pray for Wakefield, do it on your own time, in your own house, and for the love of God.. keep it to your damn self.

DO SOMETHING - not public, not self-aggrandizing - something HELPFUL and private.
Drive them to the hospital for treatment. Run errands. Make it possible for those that they love to take unpaid leave to be with them. Bake a fucking casserole.
Anything they need? Make it happen. Not like Schilling has a job or anything.

Both Wakefields have particularly grim types of cancer - it must be hell for them having both incapacitated and needing care at the same time. My heart goes out to them.

You try to pick a partner that will always be there for you and, unfortunately, in this situation neither can be. Damn, that’s a fucked up situation on both sides of it - cancer and wanting to be there for your partner.
Prayers for the Wakefields.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like Tim has one of those "get some chemo and you're fine" cancers. Not that it would be OK in that case, but this sounds like glioblastoma (what killed John McCain and Ted Kennedy) which is close to a 100% guarantee that he'll be dead within a year or two.

I have a devout Christian (in all the best sense of the word - she truly lives a loving life) friend who does prayer chains. She always asks if the person wants to be identified. If they don't, she calls for prayer without naming the person. If Schilling weren't being a self-aggrandizing hypocrite he could have said "A dear friend and his wife are dealing with life-threatening illnesses at the same time. Please pray for healing and comfort for them." If you believe that prayer helps, you should also believe that God is smart enough to figure out who the prayers are for without having it spelled out.

Kurt Shilling (no, I didn't misspell that) broadcasts the news, but it's all Adam's fault. Because he's dying for the clicks. Uh huh, sure.
Where did I say
By robo
Fri, 09/29/2023 - 12:53pm
It was Adam’s fault?
Schilling should be canceled. The media outlets shouldn’t continue to spread this information that the Wakefields clearly wanted private. Who even listens to Schillings podcast? I doubt it’s a lot of people, but a lot of people read the Globe.

It is notable that a once beloved person did a detestable thing as a pattern of just further detestable acts. That's news. And you can't really discuss that news without pointing out why it was detestable as to what they did.
Would you rather the headline be "Curt Schilling did a truly heinous thing by violating the privacy of a fellow teammate...you'll have to trust me on this"?
So, in order to accurately discuss the newsworthy act by Schilling, you have to discuss the sad news regarding Wakefield. But that's on Schilling, not the news orgs. If he'd kept the Wakefields' trust, you still wouldn't know as they wanted. Wakefield didn't trust the news not to tell you. They haven't violated anything and the need to learn about Schilling's misdeed outweighs any futile attempt to try to re-bag the cat.

Yes, Schilling should have kept his mouth shut- assuming he was told to- but that other media outlets are picking this up amplifies that which the Wakefields didn't want us to know. That Adam, the Boston Globe and Herald (saw those stories today) and whoever knows else is mentioning this are basically doing the same thing Schilling did, minus the personal connection with the family.
Newspapers and television stations would bury "news" they were told about when they realize that it was news that people didn't want out. If the victim of a crime asks for their name to stay out of a story, media will oblige unless there is a compelling interest in knowing who the victim was.
I could have gone along with my life not knowing what the Wakefields are going through since I don't pay attention to what Schilling says. Schilling might have made a peep, but now it's being shouted. That's something to think about.
there will always be a reason to not report the news

outkick, who distributes Schilling’s podcast, has 1.7M subscribers on YouTube. that Waquiot is not one of them is not quite a compelling reason to *not* report the news. fair, or no?

As a fan, thanks for everything you did for the Sox, both the highs and even the lows that made the highs all that much sweeter. Your voice and insight on the broadcasts will be missed.
As a person, thanks for everything you did for the kids and the community. Your family has been some of the best we could ever ask for. I respect you for going out on your terms and I hope those close to you were able to keep what Schilling did away from you so you could rest easy in your final hours.
Years ago, there was talk about the Red Sox retiring #49. Even though it's posthumous, I hope it's one of the first things they get to work doing next year.
