Why the co-chair of Jamaica Plain Progressives resigned: The group's unhesitating endorsement of Kendra Lara

Ed Burley, until last month co-chair of Jamaica Plain Progressives, explains his decision to resign after the September preliminary, in which its endorsed District 6 candidate, incumbent Kendra Lara, was soundly defeated after that car crash.

By fixating on having a rising-star progressive retain this seat, we lost the peripheral vision to recognize we could be squandering our special sauce for turning out voters on behalf of other quality progressives we endorsed this cycle, like Ruthzee Louijeune and Julia Mejia, two skilled at-large city councilors meriting reelection.

I call Councilor Lara's behavior "Wilkerson Syndrome". "Wilkerson Syndrome" can be described as a City Councilor caught red-handed commiting a crime and somehow still expecting to be re-elected. I describe Co-Chair Burley's behavior as an adjunct to Trumpism, (Living in denial).

There seems to be candidates across the board who are using criminal charges as a badge of honor, to say it proves the system is biased against good people.

It's nice when voters soundly reject that claim.

How is he living in denial? He said it the endorsement was a mistake and voted against it.

I took the Jamaica Plain Progressives unhesitating endorsement of Lara to mean the decision was unanimous. I only pass through JP on my way to work, I'm not a resident.

Isn't their goal to support candidates they believe in irrespective of their electability?

Are they really so surprised someone who flagrantly disregarded laws wouldn't be embraced by the voters? Or that their endorsement is obviously inconsequential?

Did they not see a conflict between the goal of safe streets and a candidate whose actions are the embodiment of everything they are trying to stop?

Not get caught up in a cult of personality where one candidate is bigger than the actual message. He feels electable candidates of the same ilk were ignored while they circled the wagons around a sure loser.

The very definition of gibberish "word salad":

"By fixating on having a rising-star progressive retain this seat, we lost the peripheral vision to recognize we could be squandering our special sauce for turning out voters on behalf of other quality progressives we endorsed this cycle"

If he thinks Julia Mejia is a skilled at large councilor meriting reelection. Jury is still out on Ruthzee, she seems fine but I feel that she is more concerned about running for mayor instead of actually being a city councilor.
