Grabauskas gone
By adamg on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 7:56pm
Gives up, accepts buyout to leave the MBTA now instead of May, Channel 4 reports.
So who replaces him? And how long will his or her honeymoon last?

So it took a eight months
So it took a eight months longer than my source in the MBTA said, but hey ... maybe they were busy texting, and got the date of separation wrong!
Or maybe it's just the MBTA running late, like usual.
Oh Smilin' Dan, I'll miss chuckling at your smilin' visage at Copley each day.
(If you recall, UHub in November spotted something I wrote about Mr. Grabauskas leaving the MBTA in January.)
Edits to add:
1) I'm not blowing my own horn, I'm in it for the texting and late jokes.
2) Adam, FTW, for throwing up a pic of Smilin' Dan with this post.
No excuses now...
The Governor has put the success of the MBTA on his plate. He now will be judged on its performance and reliability. No longer can the Gov. blame a Republican-appointed GM.
Service better improve, or this life-long (D) will be casting his ballot for Charlie Baker. (yes, this one issue alone is of such importance to me -- the reliability of my primary mode of transportation - so as to stake my vote on it.)
There was a time when you'd
There was a time when you'd want the patronage perks to put your people into safe jobs. Now what is Deval going to do - put Marian Walsh at the T? Maybe he should have cleaned up the Mass Pike toll mess before taking on responsibility for the MBTA.
Hmm...
Maybe you'll be able to cast your vote for Grabauskas. With all that money and nothing to do...
Keep an eye on who gets this
Keep an eye on who gets this job. If were paying this guy his salary plus the salary of someone else to replace him his replacement better be one of the most premier experts on mass transit in the world. IF it turns out to be Marty Walz or some other friend of his my head is going to explode.
Let's narrow it down
It's safe to say that you can eliminate anyone that actually rides the T.
Wouldn't this make a nice
Wouldn't this make a nice little pet project for Dukakis? Ok ok wishful thinking but wouldn't it be nice?
I actually thought that as I
I actually thought that as I typed. I agree it would be great but if it were ne I wouldn't put my neck out there from his position
If some of the
If some of the administration's recent appointees are any indication, I fully expect the MBTA to end up with somebody who will make us all long for the days of Grabauskas.
Important ramifications!
Does this mean we'll be only be hearing Deputy Chief Paul MacMillan on the "If You See Something, Say Something" announcements from now on?
Knowing the T, we'll be
Knowing the T, we'll be hearing "Hi, this is Dan" messages well into 2011 before someone realizes it hasnt been replaced.
Also, did you know that you could get an ezpass for free? Or play for the bruins if you ride the T?
Knowing our luck, DanG's
Knowing our luck, DanG's replacement will be Gilbert Gottfried.
anyone find the timing of all the train problems suspicious?
Is it just me, or is it very suspicious that there have been a huge number of train problems the last 2-3 days, as the Guvnah ramped up his kick-danny-boy-out campaign?
Either there were more failures, or someone worked extra hard to make sure everyone found out about them. I wonder if anyone has looked at the twitter/blog accounts that have reported the outages over the last few days.
Enough of the Twit/blog info is immediately accessible to you
I highly doubt that those particular machinations were going on in this case, but it never hurts to check, quietly.
When you look at the actual train problems (separate from how they were reported), if you see a blip there, keep in mind the heat wave.
This is not a heat wave.
This is not a heat wave. Three days above 90.
Felt like a heat wave to me
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_wave
But OK, I'll revise: "...keep in mind that the weather abruptly became relatively hot around that period, which might have adversely affected actual failure rate."
My original point: I really think that voicing the unsubstantiated and unlikely conspiracy theory is silly when the data is so accessible.
Put away your tin foil
Put away your tin foil hat.
It's pretty hard to set up an instance where the roof of a subway car is on fire. Then there's the mere issue of trusting MBTA saboteurs as not being negligent.
This is a loser move by the
This is a loser move by the Gov. and Aloisi. So much so, the dems are piling on over at Blue Mass Group. Within days Deval will realize the grim reality of getting what he wanted - and don't be surprised to see the pace of exits from the administration increase in the coming months.
Romney's pet project finally bought out
The fact that Romney gave this guy a 5 year contract after he had decided not to run again is appalling. Romney pretends to be a financial whiz, but like Bush he was born with a silver spoon and thinks that means he's a financial whiz. Both turned out to be incompetent in government, and (hopefully) both will live out their golden years writing books about how great they are and not inflict any more pain on the country.
I see your point
Who would want to give some covering fire to a Republican in THIS state? After all, the Democratic controlled legislature has done such a swell job running things like the T before and after Romney. Wait until Deval discovers that, unlike his hero, he can't print money....
Hey, Deval
You blew it. You were already proving to be pretty inept at getting anything meaningful passed through Beacon Hill and letting the losers running THAT show have too much power, but now, you've just tied your own noose.
Who is going to take this job? They have NO budget, they have NO public support, they have NO political support, they're going to have ZERO leash to screw up on the job...
Aloisi is a screw-up and you decided to tie yourself to the wrong runaway horse. The only person who's going to be stupid enough to take this job is going to be so stupid that they shouldn't be heading up a quasi-public agency. Besides, how did you get to the point of kicking him out WITHOUT HAVING A NEW PERSON ALREADY READY TO BE NAMED???
Sigh...all we can hope is that the next chump to take the job has enough spine to blow the place up if he can't get the State to take back its absurdly overwhelming Big Dig debt obligations foisted onto the MBTA as a part of a completely incompetent financial decision back in 2000. There are two ways out for the MBTA: State bailout or bankruptcy.
Only An Idiot Would Take The Job Along Wtih The Debt
Anyone with half a brain would be crazy to take that job until the question of how to deal with the MBTA's huge debt is cleared up. With that albatross around your neck you are destined to fail.
