Jamaica Plain News reports the death of Ron Hafer, who, in addition to helping lead the fight against the Southwest Expressway, founded Urban Edge and participated in the March to Selma.

Ron and Urban Edge were the models for the approach to community development associations that was created during very rough times for the city. His thoughtful work continues to serve the neighborhoods of Boston.

Remained desolate for a long time. I remember as a child the huge mural of an arm with a needle stuck in it on the side of building. And in summer, there riots at night , mobs from the projects would swarm cars at red lights. At least one man was dragged out of his car and killed.

Wish I'd known he was at Rogerson House. I'd love to have heard his stories of that I-95 fight, for which I am so grateful.
