The state Department of Revenue yesterday formally moved to seize Simco's, 1509 Blue Hill Ave. in Mattapan, for non-payment of $736,000 in taxes and interest.
In a request filed in Suffolk Superior Court, the state says Simco's has tax debts dating back to 2019 in unpaid meals, withholding and family-leave taxes, and that repeated efforts to get owner Nicholas Fotopoulos of Milton since August to even agree to a repayment schedule have so far resulted in only $20,000 being paid from banks with which he has accounts.
Simco's closed its Roslindale outlet a couple months ago.
In 2022, it agreed to pay $195,680.72 to 20 employees it had been paying less than even the federal minimum wage of $7.25 in 2019 and 2020.
In a case separate from the state's, in 2019, the city of Boston put an $18,000 lien on the Blue Hill Avenue property for non-payment of property taxes and moved to take the property, according to Registry of Deeds records. The case remains in state Land Court, with a hearing scheduled for May 23, according to the Land Court docket.

I think I went to Simco's only once, but my father stopped there a couple of times around 11pm before heading to work over on Morrissey Blvd.
Also...I think the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, not $725.

nobody bothered you there. it's on a somewhat empty stretch of the Avenue.
i went there a few times, not more only because hot dogs are poisonous, full of carcinogenic nitrites. not because of where it was. hot dogs a guilty pleasure, i've eaten them only there, Speed Dog back in the day, Sullivan's, and the occasional mall Nathan's.
frankly there aren't many or any places that are no-go zones in Boston now, compared to the 70s and 80s. Simco's wasn't even one back then.
Up or down the avenue? that was another thing. I remember Evelyn René Wagler.

My father was a pretty staunch man and it didn't bother him at all to go there - and that was the mid-late 70s, before the company moved from Morrissey Blvd to Westwood and he took a 9-5 position.

The only problem I have when I go there are people triple and quadruple parking to run up and get their hotdogs. Sheer madness at 1 o’clock in the morning.

In the 60s I doubt the frozen hotdog put in a vat of frying grease to cook had been introduced yet. My first and last encounter with that abomination was in the early 2000s.
But OMG! a clam plate with bellies... That was and is perfection from Simpco's on the Bridge.
They should have fixed the sign. Who could hate on that sign? They probably would have had so much business with the sign working; not paying taxes wouldn't have been an option.
