Editor and Publisher reports how Globe editor Marty Baron stopped the presses after somebody woke him to tell him about Ted Kennedy early this morning.
The paper copy that I bought this afternoon at Logan Airport had no article. Did the airport not get the latest edition, or did the Herald just totally punt the story?
The one on our doorstoop this morning in 02131 at 6 a.m. had the Kennedy headline. We were kind of surprised they got it out that quickly and actually had a conversation about how they must have stopped the presses. Thanks for finding/posting this link about the process.
There were a couple of pages in our edition that showed signs of where they'd had to replate and start the roll again.

Newspaper drama
That might be one of the last times an editor gets to scream, "Stop the presses!"
"Push an update to the Web site, ASAP" just isn't the same.
Did the Herald cover Kennedy's death at all?

Must've been an early edition
I think they did the same thing as the Globe: Stopped the presses and replated. I saw "Lion" front pages in a store today.
