Only in Boston: Mass transit delayed by living history

USS Constitution underway

With a little help from her friends. Adam Castiglioni watched Old Ironsides today.

The MBTA reports that Boston Harbor ferry service could be delayed between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. because the USS Constitution is going on a sailabout around the harbor.

For those wonder why Old Ironsides’ masts are short like I was:

A sailor recently advised me that, since that report was written, they have discovered that two more sections of mast need to be replaced. Thus the project will take longer than originally expected.

Why cancel ferry service? Was the USS Constitution sailing to a fundraiser in Weston?

Had 2 thought when I saw it this morning. Either celebrating Flag Day or a trial run for Independence Day.

A longtime observance for the ship. After all, it IS based in Charlestown. But it's generally been on a Saturday in the past, not a Friday.

Maybe it’s used by people going to and from work but mid day it is empty. I used to go on it at lunchtime for a friend or two for a free harbor tour ( w a T pass). Sometimes it would be just me having lunch while we spewed diesel fumes all over the harbor.
