Folk at work bring in a few BSBs. It’s great. It’s what more outlets should be like. Even so, it’s but an inkling and whets the appetite and makes corporate news the more disappointing.

... checking out whether "Massachusettsans" was actually a term. (Having lived in MA for my whole life, I'd never seen, read, or used the term "Massachusettsans," so I was flummoxed.) To save others from the google hole, the state of MA officially uses "Bay Stater," whereas a US government style guide cites the above.

As to the question, all of the stalwarts (Globe, local TV) occasionally have big hits in investigative journalism, though these days it's not easy to separate the wheat from the sensationalist chaff.

I've recently become aware of HorizonMass (https://horizonmass.news), which appears related to BINJ, but I can't say I've delved too much into it to claim it's "where I go"...

Just checked it out and started reading ‘Lack of…’ and was reminded that our subway system had / has been operating in a corrupt state of grace when it should have been shut down. Are there enough personnel in the control rooms yet?

Lol lol

It’s like you only hear the real story by word of mouth.

Can’t remember what they call it, but there’s a movie about them.

The TV stations do a bit from time to time.

The Dig did a half decent job, but they threw a lot of crap on the wall as well.

Knock the Herald all you want, but they are technically the opposition newspaper, so they are motivated to see, say, how Massachusetts’ shelter crisis is going. Shame it’s a shell of what it was 20 years ago. I blame the internet for that.

I miss "The Dig" aka "The Weekly Dig" but their demise seemed more related to the COVID-19 epidemic.

"The Globe" and The Herald" are still carrying on but as far as the Globe goes it seems paper prices and corporate greed is what's slowing their distribution and investigations. The Herald went to shit when Howie Carr decided to jump on the right-wing bandwagon hard.

So as far as an actual newspapers go "The Bay State Banner" is the best although it is weekly.

For actual Local Investigative Journalism the online space is the clear winner including the website for The Globe.
