Hey, there! Log in / Register

Yep, UHub is fading in and out of consciousness

Update: More RAM installed.

For which I apologize! The server error log keeps showing an error message that basically means the server is running out of memory to do stuff, so tomorrow morning, the Web host will be adding more memory to see if that fixes things (so tomorrow, sometime after 10, if the site's down, it might be to get a memory infusion).

My day isn't right if UHub isn't part of it. And all the regular longtime UHubbers. Even Magoo!!

Thank you Adam for all the work you do to keep us informed and keep Uhub up and running.

Also thanks to the Uhub constabulary for their good work. It is noticed and appreciated by the vast majority of us.

In the digital void, where whispers fade,
A realm of circuits, where codes cascade,
Lies a silent plea, a stark decree,
The server's cry: "No memory."

The bits once danced in rhythmic flight,
Across the boards in the dead of night,
But now they falter, lost at sea,
Drowned in echoes, "No memory."

Data dreams, now torn apart,
Fragments of logic, a broken heart,
In this vast expanse, a silent spree,
The haunting refrain, "No memory."

May the circuits mend, and storage swell,
Let data flow like a wishing well,
Till then, we wait, in silent plea,
For the end of, "No memory."

Adam didn't put the new cover sheet on the TPS reports. And we're going to need him to come in on Saturday and Sunday. That'd be terrific.

At my age, I have many of the same issues. So if there's any Memory Tonic left over, may I have some?

I pooh-poohed those ads in the 90s but I guess we can do that now.

Like 16GB of RAM instead of the old 8. Vroom, vroom!

Well, hopefully, more like the server will be able to handle more simultaneous requests and database calls than before, so the server (Apache and MySQL on Ubuntu, for what it's worth) is less likely to go into a panic, running around and being unable to figure out how to all the demands pouring in until, finally, everything falls apart.

Simulation of the UHub server until a few minutes ago:

There are some other tweaks the Web host can try, but for now we're going to monitor things to see if more memory was the answer.

RAM is cheap now, just go to 32GB and call it a day.

But not if you're renting it. Most cloud providers only offer preconfigured RAM/CPU combinations and often going up in one requires going up in both and that gets pricey.

UHub might swoon?!
If it does, I'm sure it will gracefully set aside its cup & saucer of coffee (so as not to spill) and clutch its pearls on the way down.
