The Cambridge Fire Department reports a Boston Duck Boat rescued a father and child from the Charles River near the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Land Boulevard this morning.
Firefighters with a boat began responding to the area around 9:25 a.m., but by the time they got there, dad and kid were already on shore and being evaluated by EMS. The Globe

At least the duck boat operator saved a couple of lives this time instead of ending them.

I'm pretty sure the duck boats were cleared of all wrong doing in those cases
Pretty sure only because we had weak laws at the time.

Now they are somewhat stronger.
The Duck Boat owners and operators most certainly did wrong, however.
And continue to do wrong. One operator blocked the box over an intersection the other day, blocking half the crosswalk, decided to move forward on a red light and nearly killed me and several other pedestrians. Nice show for the tourists.

That's exactly what a duck boat would say
No life rings?

I remember walking the waterfront in Galway and seeing the railings lined with "life rings" - foam rings on ropes ready to toss to hapless folks who found their way into the bay.
Would be interesting to see how often these are used for rescues of the sort we see here.

It's a sound idea, but life rings would more likely become dorm room decorations.

I am working from home today and ate my lunch while watching tv.
It just so happened that a 1984 episode of Press Your Luck came on and one of the prizes was a "Boston Vacation" with a stay at the newly renovated Royal Sonesta Hotel. 1984 was when their newer tower opened.. so this was probably some promotion to showcase that new addition.
In fact, I've watched far too many 1980s game shows not to notice several Boston hotels advertising as 'prizes' as apart of a vacation package.
A 1985 episode of $ale of the Century has a weekend stay at the Copley Marriott. (Marriott was opened in 1984)
A 1987 episode of Classic Concentration had a "new england fall vacation" package that included stays at the Cambridge Hyatt
Edit: And an early 1970s episode of The "All New" Price is Right had a vacation package with a stay at the Boston Sheraton Back Bay as one of the prizes in the showcase.
There are a few more but these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

I heard on WBZ News Radio that the Duck Boat just had two crew onboard and they were conducting mandatory 'Man Overboard' drills at the time. Amazing coincidence for that family.
