Hoping the T will get them out of town for Thanksgiving faster than flying

Jordan Frias spotted this turkey rafter at a bus stop at Massachusetts and Putnam avenues in Cambridge today.

If they chase you it's because you're afraid. Why? I don't know, I have my occasional group that hangs out on the grounds and they walk with me to the train. They keep the human trouble away from me. Much prefer the turkeys than the undesirables down Forest Hills

Every time a Republican wins the White House the TLF struts their stuff just before Thanksgiving.
Yes, wild turkeys can fly.
Don't try that with domestic ones, though (splat).

The wild ones can. The domestics are too heavy.
No Chance
Those turkeys are permanent residents of that intersection. I'm not sure why, but a bevy of them have been hanging out there for years, it's almost an official stop on the Harvard tours.
Not just that intersection
Their northernmost range seems to be Mass Ave about halfway between Porter and Harvard.
A good sized flock, too. Once I counted ten of them.

I have also
seem them loitering there. On my phone I have a few photos from February 2021 of a couple of them investigating one of the islands of Putnam Square (where Mass Ave meets Mt. Auburn, one of those triangular squares). I've seen them there a number of other times. I've also seen turkeys further up Mass Ave towards the Square. Different flocks? Different dorms?
Those turkeys you see on the other side of the Square, on Mass Ave heading out towards Porter, those are Law School turkeys. It is not advisable to interact with them.
They seem to like the median
They seem to like the median where there's some tall grass, but it doesn't seem like much protection. The males seem to like attacking car bumpers at the red light
Yeah, the males go into the street.
I once saw a group walking down the middle of Mass Ave near Bow Street, with cars trying to drive around them. The females, unimpressed by the foolish machismo, stayed on the sidewalk.
Not on that bus
The bus that stops at that stop is the #1, headed straight for the heart of Boston. Maybe they could get off at Symphony Hall, and take refuge on its spacious roof,
I saw a turkey on Dudley near Virginia St on Sunday.
Crossed the street alone in front of the car ahead of me.
