Line-cutting rage at Brighton club ended with literal back stabbing, DA says

A Boston man was arraigned yesterday on charges he stabbed somebody in the back five times after a show at Roadrunner on Guest Street in Brighton shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 1.

A Brighton Municipal Court judge ordered Collin Hullum, 36, of Boston, held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Friday on charges of assault to kill and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to the DA's office, the victim was not even one of the guys who had been directly involved in an earlier confrontation inside Roadrunner with Hullum's sister, but somebody who was trying to act as a peacemaker when voices started getting raised in an argument after closing across the street at the Warrior Ice Arena.

The DA's office reports that earlier in the evening, Hullum's sister "cut the line at the bar and was confronted for doing so" and then ran to bro and told him one of the dudes had assaulted her. After Roadrunner let out for the night, the DA's office says:

Surveillance video shows a verbal argument between the victim’s group and three unidentified males inside the foyer of the Warrior Ice Arena, located at 90 Guest Street. One of the males, later identified as Hullum, is seen striking the victim on his back area. The victim is then seen running away from Hullum, clutching his back.

Hullum is also seen holding a knife in a TikTok video that was posted online.

The victim appeared to have attempted to break up the altercation before being stabbed.

The DA's office adds:

A second individual was also observed carrying a knife during the altercation and at one point attempted to stab two individuals while inside the foyer of the Warrior Ice Arena. That individual will be charged at a later time.

In a statement, DA Kevin Hayden said:

What was supposed to be an evening out enjoying a show quickly turned into a violent altercation that resulted in one man facing serious injuries and another man facing serious charges. The victim here seemed to be attempting to stop the violence. I thank him for that and I wish him a full recovery.

Innocent, etc.

Going to have it handy for the next time something happens and the "wHy DoN't PeOpLe GeT iNvOlVeD!" chorus starts up.

Spoiled violent overgrown children like the Hullum sibs are why.

Like you know them personally.

I mean, the story bears out your words, but it just feels a touch more visceral, the way you said it.

That sounds really horrible. Here's hoping that that victim lives, and makes a full recovery!

This is the show from that night at the Roadrunner.

Might explain why people were still near the venue at 2:30 am. Most live concerts would have ended earlier.

for filling in this glaring omission.

You've never heard of venues staying open until 2 a.m.?

Even in Boston, this is hardly a novel phenomenon.

I visit that area because of Warrior Arena(i.e., Bruins alumni game last weekend). I didn't realize there was actual nightlife over there. That area feels a bit like Arsenal Yards.

The "thank you" is nice, but if you really want to help the victim, you'll let him retaliate with immunity.

Don't be an active participant. Do like Snackman.

First, the brother running to defend his sister's queue jumping and ending up stabbing.

Second, the guy who intervened to break it up and getting stabbed.

Women who run to a man to complain about some alleged affront cause a fair number of assaults and even homicides. Don't take the bait.

Also, don't jump into bar or street fights.
