Another night, another shooting on Annunciation Road

Alert New England reports a woman was shot in the stomach tonight at 58 Annunciation Rd. Police are looking for two men who fled in a gray car with out-of-state plates.

The shooting comes just one day after somebody was shot at 68 Annunciation.

Isn't this street part of Wentworth Institute of Technology's campus? These incidents would make me a bit nervous if I lived in their dorms.

Wouldn't it also make you nervous if you lived in a Housing Project? Only people who live in a college dormitory would be upset by two shootings? Very ivory-towerish of you, Ronald.

No, it is Boston Housing Authority. It is sandwiched between the Southwest Corridor, NU and WIT.

That part of Annunciation Road is in the Mission Main housing development. These incidents would make me a bit nervous if I lived there, too. What anon said.

This is Alice Taylor, a BHA property not Mission Main, which is privately managed.

Annunciation road runs behind some of the Wentworth buildings. Students park their cars on this street, and the main student parking lot is on this road as well. There are many car break-ins on this road, even one car that I know of was stolen completely.

While no one likes a shooting, there have been far too many "resident on student" violent crimes in this area that pretty much go untold. One student was walking home nearby and was hit with a baseball bat by 3-4 people, robbed while he lay unconscious, and then beaten and kicked to the tune of $10k facial reconstructive surgery. City Councilor Ross sits idly by when things like this happen, but he is the first voice you hear when students in the area are making too much noise. Whats worse: noise or people getting shot, stabbed, etc?

slowman4130, I don't know whether or not Councilor (sorry, I mean, "City Council President") Ross sits idly by or if he's involved in making sure all of the constituents in his district feel safe and secure. My guess is he cares about everyone.

I do know that I was a bit surprised by this twitter update, yesterday afternoon.

@MikeRossBoston: On my way to Beacon Hill to do a walk-through with Commissioner Davis about the spike in crime in that neighborhood.

According to data from the BPDNews.com website, there has been no "spike" in crimes on Beacon Hill, overall. Most types of crimes are lower or steady although vehicle thefts jumped 25 percent.

What was the cause of this furor over crime? A single stabbing off Charles Street, last Friday night. One.

Yet, things like this go on, day after day, in other parts of his district (like, on Mission Hill) as well as other parts of the city. Has Councilor Ross met with Commissioner Davis about this, too?

It's only when crime hits certain neighborhoods that it's considered "news". Anytime there's a reported rape in the North End, Beacon Hill, or Back Bay, it's on page one of Boston.com.

And, as we know, what's on the cover of the Globe today is discussed at City Hall, tomorrow.

It's worth noting that Police Heaquarters is a stones throw away. This block of public housing is one of the most problematic in the city and has been for years. It's infuriating that the community in those projects, Boston Housing Authority, BPD, and the leadership of the city as a whole haven't done anything to rectify the problem.

Why should the BHA, BPD and city leadership be responsible for this problem? I say parents should be held responsible for their kids? It used to be that way. What went wrong? Now, no one even brings that up. Hello? Make your kids behave!!! Or is that too much to ask?

so they have some responsibility for their tenants' behavior. However, that assumes the tenants actually have something to do with these crimes, which has not even been alleged yet, let alone proven.

I didn't clarify...I'm talking about kids today in general. Parents have lost control and this city, state, country, is in trouble because of it. Maybe I'm tainted, but the kids I see in this city/on the T, are horrid. They are rude, arrogant punks. They swear openly, walk right into you looking for a fight, have no manners or respect for anyone. It is so sad. What happened? How have we let this happen?

Why are you bothered by "swearing openly". They are only offensive if you take offense to them. They're nothing more than noise coming out of an animal. Almost certainly its not directed at you so just brush it off. Don't you have more important things to worry about?

Your canned "kids today" talking points are over there - next to the dusty 1890, 1920, 1940, 1965, and 1980 editions.

As someone who went to WIT during the late 90s early 2000's there is a reason it has the nickname of Assassination Road. The road is a boarder street to the campus it runs right behind the Architecture building, which is also where the parking lot is for all the commuting students. The gentrification of Mission Hill only goes so far. I don't know if this section will ever really be safe.

I noticed that these 2 shootings have got almost NO press whatsoever, other than universalhub. What's the deal here? Are they trying to not publicize it? Is it because it's "only the projects", or is the BPD keeping quiet because their HQ is literally one block away? For a housing development that has had a few murders, but the last one in '08, but now 2 within days of each other I would think there would be more press and community outrage. I have some interest here as I used to live around Mission Hill and cut through this area on my way to the Ruggles T stop...

They have an idea who did it but don't want to spook them until they obtain more evidence/catch them. My source is, basically, a guy with a scanner. If the mainstream media missed them (it happens), and BPD didn't issue a press release, then they basically won't get covered.
