What kind of statistics are there on *why* these crimes happen and *who*, by groups, commit the crimes?

Hmmm.....let's c if I can help u out.
Who? Stats show low income inner city minorities...no matter how much free housing, food stamps, baby food u supply ....this is still happening
WHY? Stats show usually a drug related fight...or girlfriend but being shot multiple times is a response to something that really pissed someone off
What can be done? NOTHING, only the parents raising these criminals can do something. AND for those who have not seen the blue "GET EVERYTHING FREE CARDS" then u do not fully understand the debt of sickness and defects that lies in these communities.
All we law abiding, legit job workin, paying our own bills can do is wait for the next shooting and look at the memorial of Teddy bears that go up..

hmmm lets see if you can help who out?
First you have no heart. a teen dies and all you can say is regarding economic situations???? Come on, before you judge someone find out the facts. Just because people recieve assistance does not mean they do not know how to raise children.
dont know if you are an adult and have children but from the looks of it I am sure this youngs man parents did raise him in the correct path, showed him the manners and common sense something you seem to lack. he did not deserve this, he was only 18 with the entire future ahead, how do you know who he wasnt a law abiding, tax paying citizen, finished high school and attending school for a higher degree???? How do you know? You dont. you are just assuming because he lived in as you say low income inner streets!!? Not everyone is born into a wealthy family with a white picket fence... My heart goes out to his family and friends!

You should definitely do your research before ASSUMING the way "certain" people live. That victim, who is the son of someone, has hard working parents who own their own business and pay taxes and do not live on government assistance. It's unfortunate for the kid's life to have been taken. Wrong place at the wrong time. The city is not the only place "violence " happens. It's all over the city, suburbs, etc, etc. It just sounds better when the media use "minorities" as a head line. Wake up people, whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, all kill each other. It's just sad how the ignorance continues in this world

Look bastard, I recieve food stamps. I am 18. I finished high school, 6 months early. I work a legit job, in fact I probably work harder physically than most. I pay my bills. On time. I have never tried a single drug in my life, nor have I smoked a single cigerette, nor do I even know what alcohol tastes like. I have never been arrested or convicted of ANYTHING. Yeah, I speak spanish. Yeah, I am poor. Yeah, I have a "get everything free" card.

My parents did a fine job raising me. We have just always been poor. And yes, my parents work. My dad worked two jobs to raise me and my brothers and sister, and mom worked as well. No one in my family has been arrested/convicted of anything. Poor is not a synonym for criminal.

Let me remind you, regarding the 'debt of sickness and defects', bad news travels faster and farther than good news.

I would assume a "legit job workin" person such as yourself must be educated, to have a 'legit job'. I find it rather ironic that you are educated and cannot spell common words, nor can you have common sense. Oh, and before you criticize my spelling and grammer, let me again remind you, I speak spanish.

Thank you, that is all.

I really think sometimes that some of the people who post here have never met anyone who is poor.

Or have ever left their neighborhoods.

Well, let me see if I can help you out. I grew up with Alex, and I can assure you that his parents have never been on foodstamps, welfare, or any type of government assistance. His father and mother are very hardworking, and have always been. His two older sisters both graduated from college, and I'm sure he would have followed in their footsteps had he been given the chance. There are murderers in every race and economic class, so for you to attribute his death to low income or drugs is very offensive. Murders happen because there are evil people in the world who are satan's puppets. Satan doesn't care if you're from the "ghetto" or from "Beverly Hills," his goal is to harm whoever he can. Alex was a wonderful human being that was killed by a bunch of punks who were under the impression that they were big and bad. Sickness and defects lie everywhere, and not just in the "low income" neighborhoods, as you believe.Next time you post something for everyone to read make sure you have actual facts, and not random statistics you pulled out of your head. By the way, there are plenty of people that are on government assistance who actually need the extra help. That doesn't take away from who they truly are. You are a heartless ignorant individual who types meaningless crap.

I grew up with Alex and he never caused harm to anyone, he was always there to help people, make people smile, and just laugh. He was a sweetheart, very intelligent and had so much potential. I'm not going to sit here and further explain this to you since you probably don't have a heart since you wanted to assume something without knowing him. Just know everyone loved and cared about him, he was an amazing person and will be GREATLY missed. By the way I'm an Animal Science major on a Pre-Vet track at Umass Amherst planning to minor in business and marketing, I graduated from Boston Latin Academy with a 3.5 and I am 17 years old. And may I add that I am Puerto Rican and Dominican, I am not poor nor rich. Now tell me why haven't I've been killed? Statistics are just number. Have a nice day.

ignorance is not bliss - are you aware that recently there was a drug related shooting in Reading, a young man was killed inside his home by another former Reading resident during a drug deal. Beautiful house, great education, etc, etc, Doesn't matter - dead is dead -

Disgusting is disgusting - to malign this young man (Alex) who is truly the most innocent victim you will ever find is disgusting.

To Alex's family and friends - I am praying for you all and cryign with you as well, and hope you eventually come to some peace and that this does not destroy your lives forever

TO the shooter's friends & family - I will pray for you as well
To the shooter - I will eventually pray for you as well as your life surely is a living hell

To DYS/Law enforcement/City of Boston community leaders - Please do soemthing , this is killing us, we can't keep losing bright young people over this random senseless bull of living in the 'wrong' place - there has to be sometihng that can be done

Sorry but you are wrong. Its because of where he lived as to why he got shot. Stop being so stereo typical how about you go try and live on your own tell every one how it goes.

real talk i knew the dude he wasnt a bad kid like it just happened, like he hung out with the wrong dude ( http://www.universalhub.com/2011/pals-alleged-sout... ) and it led to blanco getting shot like he didnt deserve it. The day he got shot he was supposed to be with someone else and if he was with that other person the other person probably would have gotten shot and not blanco like really its just because who he associated with and where he lived he didnt rep a gang he just lived where he lived and that was just the wrong place and he got shot so statistics cant say anything RIP BLANCO

With a capital A..Dont assume that because we live here we are low lives and collect benefits..My family was put here because BRA sold our property out many years ago and this was an option given to us. My Father worked very hard to raise 14 children, some turned out good some not so. We lived here all our lives and the South End belonged to all of us equally. All you do gooders moved in and this is my attitude toward each and every one of you:1) I was introduced to one of you as living on Shawmut Ave, I dont and never have but I am one of your neighbors if you saw me getting robbed you would shut your blinds because of where I do live "Villa Victoria". Its just a name of a townhouse development, it doesnt make us who we are. Does what my Brothers and Sisters do represent who I am, absolutely not. The Old South Enders took common interest in every family regardless of what color, financial bracket or Job they held. Alex was a great kid with a wonderful family and I speak this from my own experience with him. Regardless of who he was related to or not, does not represent him. His Parents are suffering a tremendous loss at the hands of another and just like we can be evicted at any time, so can they. Also, remember just because its classified as low income property, some people pay thousands to live there at Market Rate because they don't "live off of the system" as you suggest. Another do gooder made an insinuation years ago "figures people who get every thing for nothing would complain", It was never for nothing, my Father worked his whole life and paid taxes just like you did....

Man I am 18. I don't know what this was about, but I wish the best for the families of both the victims and suspects. And I hope the suspects grow a pair and turn their lives around.

Eloy Sierra was found guilty in the 2006 murder of a South End teen back in 2006.

Sierra is a common last name but I wonder if Alex was related.

honestly thats not something to write on an article reguarding someones death. dont try and justify alexs life with somebody else actions.

That's the kind of question you research quietly, not speculate about publicly.

The only reason he got shot was because he was from the "villa" . Apparently it's a crime to live in this neighborhood. Where are suppose to say we live at??

Not at villa victoria, just say Cathedral. That always seems to work!!!!!

Alex Sierra was a good kid. He will always be remembered for his great abilities of conversation and being very friendly. His life was taking away from him by stupid immature thugs who rep wheere they live and are trying to make an impact on peoples lives. They are nothing but lows lives, and living in the ville is not bad at all, its the people that come in and out of the ville that makes it bad.

My heart n prayers go out to the Sierra family. Alex is now gone but he will not be forgotten. May he redt in peace. As for the the guys who took his life I hope that they pay for what they have done. I'm sorry for their parents who might not have anything to do with it and are now suffering for their kids stupidity but at least they will be able to have them there and from time to time hug and kiss them and even see them. But as to the Sierra family they will never get to hold, hug or kiss their son.

Like someone said before Blanco was at the wrong place at the wrong time, it had nothing to do with being a gang memember. Maybe some of you should take the time to find out what really happen rather than just assuming things.

~R.I.P Blanco~
