Four armed robbers didn't get far with stolen tablet and phone, police say

Boston Police report arresting four men they say stole a man's tablet computer and phone at knifepoint on Trull Street in Dorchester, hopped into a car and raced away - only to be nabbed by officers about a half mile away.

Police say the four - Victor Torres, 41, of Dorchester, Angel Torres, 36, of Mattapan, John Santa, 29, of Dorchester and Sandro Rosa, 31 - surrounded their victim shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday on Trull Street at Glen Street and made him hand over the electronics:

Additional responding officers soon located and stopped a vehicle matching the given description in the area of Adams Street and Winter Street. As the suspect vehicle was slowing to a stop, officers observed the front passenger side door open slightly as an object was discarded on the ground. The item was later recovered and determined to be the victim’s tablet.

Although only two of the men displayed knives, all four were charged with armed robbery, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Will a check on the immigration status of these fellows be conducted? If so, and they’re found to be in the country illegally, will ICE be contacted and will we get a judge who won’t stand in the way of their deportation? Please report on this important matter.

I’d see your assumption and raise you a “I bet they were born in Boston.”

Maybe they were, but I think we should find out. If their names were McDonough or O’Callahan, I’d be saying the same thing. Run a quick immigration check on all arrestees. If they’re not supposed to be here, deport them. I bet the two people in Southie who got their throats cut wished someone deported the guy that did it. Rachel tollins wouldnt posecute him because she was afraid he’d be deported. If it makes you feel better, let’s start deporting illegal Italians and Irish first.

I don't think anyone reading your comment believes for one second that you would be saying the same thing if their names were Irish. You're not even a good liar.

Why not make an immigration status check part of the booking process? If people are here illegally, it’s a crime. If they’re not doing anything bad, we’ll never find out that they’re illegally here.

Maybe we could deport our own citizens who seemingly have nothing better to concern themselves with than the immigration status of the persons they pass on the street...

And don’t get me wrong. I’m supportive of the enforcement of the country’s immigration laws, but I also know that in Dorchester and Mattapan, someone with a Spanish surname is most likely an American citizen, or here legally to say the least.

By the way, you do realize that Dan Conley, not Rachel Rollins, was DA when the murdered in question was able to enter a plea to avoid deportation, right? Rollins has never worked in the Suffolk County DA’s office.

Funny, I don't recall ever seeing you ask about the immigration status of anyone of non-Hispanic descent. There have been plenty of crimes and arrests over the past year, yet this is the only time you've asked that I am aware of. I wonder why?

Whatever happened to the guy who slashed the throats of the 2 doctors by the way?

It sometimes takes a long time for a murder suspect to actually go before a jury (there are a lot more legal machinations on both sides, given how high the stakes are).

That someone with an Italian sounding name might be With Out Papers?

Surely she isn't a, oh, what's that word that is used that works in the phrase With Out Papers? It'll come to me eventually.

That's a false etymology. The word "wop" is short for guappo. Slang and slurs can be hard to track down a definitive etymology for, but as it happens the word predates the development of modern immigration documentation, so "without papers" wouldn't even had many any sense.

ICE will find out, but will not do anything because these men will hopefully spend some time in prison here first. Deporting them would be like giving them a "get out of jail free card" with a free flight to go along with it.

And I thought it was just people from the burbs that misbehaved in the city

It seems that the police knew who the robbers were, had been on the lookout for the robbers due to having formed a police trap, and were thus able to apprehend them..
