Their maps, their right, of course, but the first full month after they announced the charge (and after a credit I got for using maps for a news site), I had to pay $400+ to run maps on every Boston crime and fire post, which for me just isn't sustainable (especially since they've decided I no longer qualify for the news-related credit).
There's an open-source alternative, but it's fairly complex to install, and I just haven't had the time yet to figure it out. In the meantime, I still have maps on some index pages, such as the 2019 murder page liked above.
