Woman stabbed on the Esplanade

State Police report a woman walking or running on the Esplanade around 3:50 p.m. was stabbed by a man she did not know.

After stabbing the woman near one of the footbridges over the lagoon, the man ran away, but troopers caught him at Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street - where one had to use a taser to subdue him so that he could be cuffed and taken away, State Police say, adding, "a weapon that was in the suspect’s possession was recovered and secured."

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening, State Police say.

I find that hard to believe.

I came close to being stabbed by a stranger, in a public place, in broad daylight.

So I find it easy to believe.

I have a friend who was stabbed in the back in a store while standing in line to pay for food. The police said the stabber was a "crazy person". It happens. Believe it.

Dude pulled a butcher knife out on the whole train car as we pulled into Ashmont at 2:30pm on a Sunday, November 2016. Threatened to stab anyone who was looking at him funny or had something to say. I think we all just looked down, no one got stabbed and we went about our business.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there's been a lot of stabbings, shootings, and other random attacks lately? What is going on?

Curious to hear more: robbery? drugs? unstable?

Also, not to be nitpicky, but the police report says the stabbing occurred "in the area of the footbridge between the Esplanade and the Lagoon, roughly parallel to the intersection of Dartmouth Street and Storrow Drive." How can something be parallel to an intersection?

The area is parallel to the T-shaped intersection, where Dartmouth meets Storrow.
