Police: Guy shoots at two guys in the South End, misses, gets arrested thanks to tips from the community

Boston Police report arresting a man they say opened fire on two other men on East Berkeley Street on Tuesday evening.

Police say officers arrested Jesus Diaz, 36, of Roxbury, early this morning after "numerous community members came forward to assist responding detectives with their investigation, leading to the identification of the suspect."

Police say Diaz shot at his intended targets around 8:45 p.m. on East Berkeley between Shawmut Avenue and Tremont Street, missed, then ran away.

At about 2:10 AM on Wednesday July 17, 2019, officers observed and stopped the suspect while on directed patrol in the area of Washington Street and Mystic Street. Officers were able to place the suspect in custody without incident at which time they safely recovered a loaded .380 caliber Ruger LCP handgun from inside a backpack that was in the suspect’s possession.

Diaz was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police say.

Innocent, etc.
