Police arrest man they say was a participant in a Roxbury gun battle that left one injured

Boston Police report arresting an alleged participant in a gun battle between two groups on Holworthy Street around 2:50 a.m. on April 23.

On arrival, officers learned that there had been an exchange of gunfire between two groups. Moreover, officers observed several spent shell casings on the ground. While still on scene, officers learned that a victim suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound sustained during the exchange of gunfire had self-applied to an area hospital.

After an investigation, police say, the gang unit yesterday arrested Tyrre Herring, 22, on Boyden Street in Dorchester, on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm (third offense), unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He was also charged as a Level 1 armed career criminal, which could mean a long sentence if he's convicted on the other charges.

Herring had previously been arrested in 2015 on a witness-intimidation charge in Jamaica Plain and in 2016 on gun possession charges in Dorchester.
