Three arrested after shots fired on Mascot Street in Dorchester

Dorchester Police report arresting two men and a teenager after shots were fired on Mascot Street at Jones Avenue in Dorchester around 10:25 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say the driver of a vehicle that spotted an incoming cruiser fled at a high rate of speed.

Additional officers in the area observed the vehicle traveling on Ashton Street. The officers followed the vehicle, which continued to travel at an accelerated speed, before activating their lights and sirens in an effort to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle continued away from officers, speeding through the residential neighborhood before skidding to an abrupt stop in front of 14 Ashton Street where the rear passenger immediately exited the vehicle and fled into the backyard of the residence. Officers approached the vehicle and removed the remaining occupants, the operator and the front passenger. Officers set up a perimeter in the area and subsequently located and secured the third male suspect underneath a porch in the area of 42 Lucerne Street.

Police say the found a bullet on the front passenger floor. A K-9 unit picked up the scent of a gun loaded with five round behind an Arbutus Street house, police say, adding that a further search of the vehicle found another gun, loaded with nine rounds, in a storage compartment in the rear seat's center console.

Driver Manndell Curry, 20, of Dorchester, passengers Erik Pettijohn, 19, of Hyde Park, and a 16-year-old from Dorchester too young to have his name released, were charged with two counts of unlicensed possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a large-capacity firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Pettijohn was also charged with trespassing, police say.
