Woman was pushing a baby in a stroller through Downtown Crossing while packing a gun loaded with 17 rounds, police say

Boston Police report arresting a woman on gun charges in Downtown Crossing Friday evening - after, they say, she knocked over a stroller and baby she had been pushing in a failed attempt to avoid arrest.

Police say EMTs were summoned and determined the baby was not physically harmed in the spill. Police did not specify if the baby was the woman's or that of another woman she was walking with.

Police say gang-unit officers and state troopers were already in the area of Washington and Summer streets looking for Tanaily Pinero, 22, of Roxbury, both because she had outstanding warrants and because they had learned she had a gun and was somewhere in Downtown Crossing. Around 7:13 p.m., police say, the officers and troopers spotted her, along with Tyreek Woodley, 23, of Dorchester and another woman:

Upon seeing officers, Pinero and Woodley attempted to flee on foot but were stopped by Officers. Pinero refused commands to comply and continued holding onto the baby stroller, eventually knocking it over. Officers were able to take Pinero into custody without further incident.

At this point, Woodley began yelling and kicking while attempting to flee from officers while in handcuffs. It should be noted that this immediately drew attention to the public and obstructed pedestrians from walking on the footpath in the Downtown Crossing Area.

Officers immediately observed Pinero holding a black fanny pack around her chest. Officers conducted a pat-frisk of the fanny pack and immediately felt what they believed to be a firearm. Officers subsequently recovered a loaded firearm.

Pinero was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say, adding Woodley was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

Woodley is to be arraigned out of Boston Municipal Court on charges of Disturbing the Peace, Resisting arrest, and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

Tanaily Pinero is to be arraigned out of Boston Municipal Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.

Innocent, etc.

But then what sort of psycho would put her child in the care of a gun-toting psycho?

« Pinero refused commands to comply and continued holding onto the baby stroller, eventually knocking it over. »

She was holding onto the stroller while police attempted to arrest her. That much is clear. There was a struggle. The stroller ended up on its side. Lots of possible ways that could have happened:

- The police are slamming her around because they're jerks, or
- She knocks it over on purpose because she's a jerk, or
- She's trying to protect the baby from the police (doesn't want to be separated from it) and tries to pull it away from the cops, and it turns over, or...

You're not going to get a very clear or unbiased report from anyone directly involved.

She used her baby to potentially avoid being arrested for an illegal firearm with high capacity magazine. Thank god she didn’t get into a gun battle with the baby first.

I'd say the best case scenario is that she was actually minding her own business at the time, and wasn't expecting trouble -- and that the stroller tipping over was an innocent mistake attributable directly to neither her nor the police.

She had outstanding warrants, the cops were openly looking for her, and she deliberately used a baby to shield herself.

If this person wasn't born on American soil, we'd brand them a terrorist - and justifiably so.

So Tim McVey wasn’t a terrorist? But anyone non native in possession of a gun is?

So, here's your chance to be Earl Weaver.

Not.

That's kinda tame. Earl Weaver used to use a certain 10-letter word taboo in baseball circles.

Good thing for her; some babies can really shoot.

Nothing more humiliating than having to explain to St. Peter that you lost a gun battle to an infant.

It anyways. Appreciate the laugh!

If she's not expecting trouble, then why was she carrying a very lethal weapon?

You can bet the police filed a report with DCF.
