Another young teen arrested on gun charges
Boston Police report arresting a 14-year-old Dorchester resident on gun charges after he and pals on scooters were driving around near Harambee Park "threatening bystanders while clutching their waist areas" Monday night.
Police say officers responded to Helen Street around 7:20 p.m. on a report of "a group of scooters causing a disturbance." They got there in time to see one scooter fleeing the area.
Officers activated their emergency lights signaling for the moped operator to pull over. The operator of the moped refused to stop, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and weaving in and out of oncoming traffic, causing multiple motorists to abruptly stop to avoid being struck by the moped in order to get away from officers.
Police say they found the kid under a parked car and the scooter driver, Austilino Pereira, 21, of Dorchester, in a nearby park. They also found a "discarded firearm" along the path the two had taken - "a Taurus G2C with one live in the chamber, and seven live rounds in the magazine."
The 14-year-old was charged with being delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of burglarious tools. Pereira was charged with failing to stop for a police officer, negligent operation, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving without a helmet.
Innocent, etc.
