Man smashed in the face with a gun in failed Mattapan Square robbery, police say

Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester man on charges he smacked a man with his gun during a failed robbery attempt at 1635 Blue Hill Avenue shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 8.

On arrival, officers located an adult male victim who stated he had been approached by a male suspect who struck him in the face with a firearm while attempting to rob him.

Corey Robinson, 41, of Dorchester, was arrested around 8:55 p.m. on Saturday after officers spotted him a couple blocks away on River Street, police say, adding he tried to run, but was unable to run fast enough.

Once officers caught up with him, police say, other officers following his path found "a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun" - reported stolen in Somerville earlier this year - that he tossed while running.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, second offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, assault and batter by means of a dangerous weapon and attempting to commit a crime, police say.

Innocent, etc.
