Man walks out of Dorchester apartment with automatic gun loaded with 26 bullets and is promptly arrested, DA says

A South Boston man already charged in two firearm cases was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing next week following his arrest on a variety of gun charges at Centre and Redwood streets in Dorchester, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Boston Police were already conducting a firearms investigation involving Frederick Hines, 23, when he walked out an apartment at Centre and Redwood around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, the DA's office says.

Officers observed an individual exit a residence on Centre Street matching the description officers had of Hines from earlier that day. Officers safely removed a firearm from a cross body bag worn by Hines across his chest. The firearm was determined to be a black Glock 17 with a painted gold slide loaded with one round in the chamber and 25 rounds in the magazine, capable of holding 30 rounds.

The firearm was also equipped with a gold machine gun conversion device, also known as an auto sear, affixed to the rear of the slide.

Auto sears convert guns into automatic weapons, allowing for the rapid fire of bullets with just a single trigger pull, and turning the gun into what is legally considered a machine gun.

Hines, already facing two separate gun cases in Dorchester Municipal Court, was charged with possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a machine gun, possession of a loaded machine gun, carrying a loaded firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, the DA's office says.

Innocent, etc.

Did he suddenly become more dangerous?

Slapping a full-auto conversion on a random pistol and not being able to practice with it is likely to result in more of a threat to ceilings than people. Still don't want to encourage it though.

He became less dangerous when the cops took away his gun and threw him in jail.

He keeps finding more while out of jail. This is his third offense!

While there are state charges on this, I would suspect that the feds will be informed and could be interested in prosecuting him under their jurisdiction as well.

If it's converted to a fully automatic that's a big no-no in their book.

Our Governor and Mayor need to pull all their power together to stop the loopholes that supply these guns in the middle of the night when they are sleeping.

Very much appreciate your taking so many illegal guns off the street.
