Driver slams into two pedestrians in the Fenway then keeps going
By adamg on Sun, 01/21/2024 - 1:13pm
Police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck they say plowed into two pedestrians on Ipswich and Boylston streets in the Fenway, then just kept on driving down Ipswich, shortly after midnight.
Stanley Staco reports both victims suffered serious injuries.
The white Chevy Silverado had New Hampshire plates and fresh front-end damage of the sort that comes from running into two people.

Tragic and inevitable.
I sound like a broken record, but I've been predicting this since covid. Drivers got used to owning the roads, full speed ahead and damn the pedestrians, to the point where they speed up to go through RED lights. There is absolutely no enforcement, despite cameras installed at virtually every major intersection. I mainly see it in daytime hours, but I can only imagine how much worse it must be when there's less vehicular traffic to slow them down even a tiny bit.
I hope they find the driver and throw him in jail for a long, long time.
Traffic enforcement cameras
Cops can't be everywhere, why do you think former Councilor Laura drove without a license for so long? Drivers (and cyclists!) know there aren't really any consequences.
(I'm assuming there is some grey area with regards to an unlicensed driver getting caught on camera, the plate would still connect with the owner right?)
Unless anyone as a better idea? Seriously, what else can be done to address traffic violence?
Automated Enforcement
It’s automated enforcement via traffic cameras.
The cameras are ubiquitous in European countries who have a fraction of the traffic injuries and deaths we do. Everywhere where cameras have been implemented there’s been a reduction of injury, death, and traffic violations. When entitled drivers push back to have the cameras removed, the violations, injuries, and death come surging right back. https://www.iihs.org/topics/red-light-running
Punish bad drivers, save lives, generate revenue.
Win, win, win.
To a degree
You have to keep a tight leash on the private company you hire to monitor the cameras. Or they start doing hinky bullshit like shortening yellow lights to increase ticket revenue.
The camera monitors wouldn't control timing.
Like private tow companies don't determine parking policy. There is always potential for fraud and abuse, but proper oversight should be built in.
Bad time for Ipswich Street,
Bad time for Ipswich Street, based on this and the story above.
MGM Music Hall is a welcome addition to Fenway nightlife...
...but larger drunk crowds bring more incidents. The venues and the city need to increase security and law enforcement too.
Oh, my god!
This is absolutely horrible! There should be police traps on the Fenway, to prevent that kind of thing from happening again.
