Two teens charged with smashing way into East Boston smoke shop
Boston Police report arresting two teens, one from far distant Hyde Park, on charges they broke into the Super Smoke Shop at 247 Meridian St. in East Boston, Saturday night.
A third suspect managed to evade police for now.
Police say officers responded to an alarm from the shop around 11:40 p.m. and found the front door of the shop smashed in. Not long after, officers spotted the three on Border Street, just past the McDonald's. After a chase, they found a 15-year-old hiding behind some bushes. He was charged with being delinquent for breaking and entering in the nighttime, malicious destruction of property, and larceny from a building, police say.
While officers were in the area of London Street, a second suspect approached them, and stated he wanted to confess to a robbery he was involved in.
Unlike the first teen, too young to have his name released, that suspect was 18. Police say Ramon Batiz, of Hyde Park, was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, malicious destruction of property, and larceny from a building.
On Sunday, armed with a search warrant, officers entered an apartment at 4 London St., where, police say, they found "multiple items" that had been stolen from the smoke shop.
Innocent, etc.
