Man robbed, then pistol whipped in Uphams Corner; suspect arrested down the street

Boston Police report a guy pointed a gun at a man, robbed him of $140 and then beat him in the head with a gun, at Columbia Road and Hancock Street in Dorchester around 12:35 a.m.

As EMTs were transporting the victim to a local hospital for treatment, officers spotted a guy who matched his description just a couple blocks away, outside 471 Columbia Rd. on the way towards Blue Hill Avenue.

As officers exited their cruiser, the suspect immediately put his hands in the air. Officers were able to positively identify the suspect and he was taken into custody.

Jose Ramirez-Martinez, 38, of Dorchester, was charged with armed robbery, police say.
