Early morning street party in Roxbury ends with gunfire, one arrest

Boston Police report officers responding to a 911 call about gunfire behind 58 Circuit St. in Roxbury early this morning found a large party going on - and one guy who started walking away from the celebrations while clutching his hoodie pocket when they arrived.

According to police, officers arrived at the area between Circuit and Regent streets around 1:30 a.m. and found "a large group with multiple vehicles running, congregating in the middle of the street across from 53 Regent St, while drinking alcohol and playing loud music:"

Officers approached the group to address several city ordinance violations when their attention was drawn to an individual attempting to walk away from officers, while grabbing his front hooded sweatshirt pocket with his hand, and turning his body away from Officers. An investigation followed and Officers identified the individual as Takari Hokett and recovered a firearm that was located inside the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt.

B-2 Detectives responded and the firearm was determined to be a black Keltec P-40 with no round in the chamber and six .40cal rounds in the magazine.

Hokett, 21, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a loaded firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, public intoxication and drinking in public, police say.

Innocent, etc.
