Man who had sex-trafficking conviction vacated because his lawyer was a flaming racist is charged with raping, beating a woman in his Mattapan apartment, DA says

A Mattapan man was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Friday on charges he raped and beat a woman so badly police found her covered in blood and spitting up blood clots early Sunday morning, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Police responded to Evelyn Street around 2:15 a.m. on a report of a disturbance to find a screaming woman "with her jeans pulled down to her ankles and a T-shirt soaked in what appeared to officers to be blood, pulled up," the DA's office reports.

Anthony Dew, 42, was arrested not long after, because while he fled the scene, as first responders were trying to help the woman, he returned and "and became verbally combative with officers," the DA's office reports, adding, "Officers observed several scratches to his hand and face. Based on the description given by the victim, Dew was placed under arrest."

The DA's office continues that the woman told police that Dew had beaten and raped her in his apartment on Evelyn Street.

As officers approached the victim, she screamed “he raped me” and pointed to an apartment. The victim told police the man who attacked her, later identified as Dew, lived there and raped and beat her as she “went in and out” of consciousness.

She was taken to a local hospital for care.

Dew had pleaded guilty in 2016 to five counts of human trafficking and was sentenced to eight to ten years in state prison, under a deal in which rape charges against him were dropped.

Last year, however, the Supreme Judicial Court vacated his sentence - in a ruling that came one month after his release from prison.

The state's highest court concluded that Dew, both Black and Muslim, could not have gotten the best possible representation because his lawyer, court-appointed Richard Doyle, was, in fact, a virulent hater of both Blacks and Muslims, somebody who spent several years posting anti-Muslim and anti-Black images and rants on his Facebook page - sometimes while he was in court.

This included sharing a photo of pig testicles with the caption "Dear muslims, kiss our big bacon balls," calling Colin Kaepernick "boy," and refering to Black defendants in Suffolk Superior Court as "assorted thugs and bad guys."

The ruling also came after Doyle had died.

On Jan. 24 of this year, the DA's office formally decided not to retry Dew on the 2016 charges.

Innocent, etc.

Too bad we can't arrange to have him room with his former attorney, they seem made for each other.

Edit: I missed the part about the lawyer being unalive, but Hell is getting pretty full so they'll still get a chance to be roommates, eventually.

Is dead.

Right. Wasn’t James Bulger executed by administrative fiat?

Why did you choose "unalive" to express that? I've heard it's to get around content filters but that clearly does not apply here.
