Car hits hydrant on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester

Scott Cluett reports a motorist managed to take out a hydrant on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester around 1:15 p.m. The Dorchester Reporter reports the driver suffered a "medical emergency" before hitting the hydrant.

The Boston Business Journal reports that for the second time, a buyer has walked away from the Globe plant on Morrissey Boulevard that will soon be empty of people as the outlet moves its publishing operations to Taunton and its editorial and sales departments to State Street.

State Police report a man suffered serious injuries, and the driver minor injuries, when their car crashed around 12:20 a.m. in the turnaround in front of the Globe building on Morrissey Boulevard. Read more.

State Police report that around 12:40 a.m., a Volvo S60 sailed off I-93 near the Morrissey Boulevard exit, landing on a Honda HR-V on Morrissey Boulevard.

The driver of the Volvo, a Chatham man, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old woman from Dorchester, was taken to Boston Medical Center and is expected to survive, State Police say.

State Police say investigators are trying to determine how and why the Volvo went airborne.

Members of rival gangs from Dorchester and Mattapan briefly turned Boston Bowl on Morrissey Boulevard into a battleground early on Aug. 15, with a member of one gang shot at in the parking lot and a member of the other having to evade bowling balls hurled at him - before somebody caught up with him and punched him in the face hard enough to break his nose. Yes, Virginia sign on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester

Yesterday, Deirdre showed us the electronic signboard on the southbound side of Morrissey Boulevard. As you can see above, the signage on the northbound side of the road is a bit different, even if part of the same general theme.

So beware of Morrissey Boulevard between now and the 26th.

Dan Kennedy reports on the possible deal with Winstanley Enterprises of Concord for the 16.4-acre site - and the move of the Globies to parts unknown in late 2016 or early 2017.

The move could portend a complex without housing, since the company specializes in office and retail development, but not housing.
