At peace and unity rally in Roslindale

About 200 Roslindale residents gathered in a blustery wind at Adams Park this afternoon to comfort each other and begin to figure out what comes next after this month's election.

Rabbi Matt Soffer of Temple Israel - and a Roslindale resident - cited the story of Abraham, who, on seeing strangers outside his tent, rushed to bring them in and comfort them, in calling on residents to protect each other. Read more.

The MetroWest Daily News reports on the rally in Natick Center last night, in response to last week's post-election death threat to a local resident.

Amid the toll of church bells and the honking of car horns, people held signs proclaiming "Spread Love," "Honk for Love," and "Hate has No Home in Natick."

Because it seems his constituent-services phone numbers, the ones people have been calling since Monday to ask him to say something, anything about how he's going to protect vulnerable populations in Massachusetts, are now out of order.

UPDATE: At a press conference, Baker said the lines are back up. Also, while he wouldn't call Massachusetts a sanctuary state, saying sanctuary stuff is up to cities and towns, he said, "People need to feel welcome here. ... We will not tolerate acts of violence against anyone."

A group of Roslindale residents are organizing a unity gathering in Adams Park on Sunday.

Join with neighbors to gather in peace and solidarity, and to stand up and speak out against violence and hate across the city, state, and country.

We are a diverse, connected community - this is a concrete way to show that we will support and care for each other in the face of fear and anger.

Starts at 4 p.m.

People who really are opposed to the Trump presidency are warning other people away from an alleged anti-Trump rally Friday night on the Common. No, don't show up at the Common prepared for "an intimidating show of force" in which to "smash the fascists."

UPDATE: Students exonerated.

One of the Babson dudes who drove around Wellesley College to taunt students there after the election apologized today for being a jerk. No word if his apology is enough to get him back into his frat, which kicked him out.

The Walpole guy who posed in front of a local Mexican restaurant with a large Trump banner, then posted on Facebook that the owners would be paying for the wall, apologized - by way of a full-page ad in the Walpole Times. He says he meant no offense, he was just in a joking kind of mood and besides, it was only that he's a Facebook dunce that he made the post public.
