After having moved to L.A. (which is like a whole 'nother culture), I asked my (Orange County native) boyfriend, "Wanna hit th'packie?""... the what?""Th'packie. We'll get some beah.""You can't call it that. People will think you're talking about a Pakistani."So consider yourselves forewarned. Outside of the 128 at least, "Packie," might be heard as, "Paki."
Packie = Beer Store is true at least out to the 495 loop. Oh, and if you need to go to one, the only place to go is your local Kappy's Liquers.. basically valhalla on earth for alkie college students such as i used to be.
My extended family owned the liquor store in that picture!!! It is one of two. The other one is on the Quincy / Braintree line, hence Quintree! The shut down the original a few years ago and sold the one in the pic @2 years ago. Good times!!!

We used packie down in CT. We'd talk about hitting the packie. I was in Montreal a few years ago and I used the phrase "lets go hit the packie after work" and the room went silent. They thought I wanted to go out and beat someone up from Pakistan. Referred to as packie bashing up there.

Out of staters are ALWAYS confused when I use this term. "Can we stop at the package store?" They always assume I mean UPS or something.

I just moved to San Fran, and I asked what time the packies closed - my coworker told me that the airport will ship packages 24/7.
