Matt Frank went down to Castle Island today to watch Old Ironsides on its trip around Boston Harbor and got a good view of both it and Codzilla.
The Haley School in Roslindale has alerted parents and staffers that one of its students was seriously injured in a fireworks explosion on July 5th, and points them to a GoFundMe page set up by his mom, which says that in addition to losing most of his fingers on one hand, he suffered serious facial injuries and faces a series of operations.
People with phones set up for emergency messages were warned this afternoon to leave the Esplanade as a line of thunderstorms approached south of Boston. State Police stopped letting people onto the Esplanade to reduce the number of people they might have to move out in a hurry had the heavy rain and lightning reached the Charles, which it didn't. Cambridge Police report that around 8:20 p.m. on July 4th, one of the fireworks two guys were setting off on Cherry Street shot into a house, "causing smoke." Officers who arrived on scene in response to several calls about the bombs bursting in air wrote summonses for the two on charges of illegal fireworks possession and disturbing the peace.
Gregory Gill, 23, is scheduled for arraignment on two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in East Boston Municipal Court today after he allegedly pointed "a realistic-looking replica AK47 at passersby" during preparations for the Winthrop July Fourth parade on Saturday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Live Boston reports a Jeep that just happened to be sitting atop a box of fireworks on Michigan Avenue near Columbia Road caught fire around 2:50 a.m. on July 4th. Neighbors rushed over with garden hoses to douse the car before firefighters arrived.
