MIT Technology Review reports Keolis workers will soon test Android-based "smart glasses" that will let them do real-time lookups of important data or consult with colleagues remotely.

The glasses will be tested in several locations, including the large repair facility in Somerville and a smaller yard in Readville. If successful, even train drivers could one day be given pairs - to let them make emergency repairs while still on the tracks.

Unusual locomotive on the Fairmount Line at Readville

You never know what you'll see at the Readville train station, a.k.a. the world's largest model train set.

With it still being too hot to cook tonight, I drove down to Olympic Pizza in Wolcott Square, put in an order, then walked over to the station, where I spotted an unusual locomotive on a Fairmount Line train. Read more.

No power in Charlestown

UPDATE: Eversource estimates the power in the affected part of Charlestown should be back on by 3:30 a.m.

At 10:08 p.m., Rachele Pojednic reported it had actually been more than two hours without power in Charlestown, with no end in sight.

Readville also lost power for three+ hours earlier in the evening.

Mile marker in Hyde Park's Readville

Head south towards the Sprague Street bridge and, at West Milton Street, just before the bridge, there's this mile marker that seems to indicate it's less than 20 miles (or 38 km) to Providence. But that can't be right, can it? And how many old granite mile markers give the distance in kilometers first (or at all)?

A developer is floating the idea of buying three parcels near the Sprague Street bridge in Readville for an eight-acre, 600-unit residential complex, just down the street from the 2.7-acre parcel another developer recently bought with plans for 240 apartments.

News of the possible market-rate complex with a pool had Readville residents in an uproar at a neighborhood meeting Thursday night, even though the developer does not yet own the land, let alone have formal plans to submit to the city. Read more.

City Councilors Tim McCarthy (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan) and Michelle Wu (at large) want the T to publicly explain why people who use the Fairmount Line or who board the train at Forest Hills pay so much less than people who take commuter rail in from Roslindale and other parts of Hyde Park in particular. The Suffolk County Mosquito Control Project will spray areas around Fowl Meadow with an aerosol insecticide this coming Wednesday night - Thursday if it rains or the truck has issues.

McCarthy's district includes Readville, where a 7-year-old girl was pricked by a discarded needle at Iacono Playground last month. Read more.
